question for any "bank" people out there

I am getting totally confused. I can access my checking account online. Now, I went to the bank drive thru after work today to deposit money. I would think that the slip with the balance they give back to me should be accurate. I just looked online and online it is like 700 less than what my slip says. Anybody know???? And also, if you have overdraft protection....this slip I got through the drive thru.....would the balance INCLUDE what I have available in overdraft left??

Possibly because the bank has to run all it's daily transactions at the end of the business day. After everything is run your online total will show the update.

I used to bank at a bank that, depending on the type of checks deposited, would withhold a percentage of the total deposit to make sure the checks cleared.

It has been years since we banked at that bank, so I don't know if that practice is legal anymore. The types of checks that they would "hold back on" would be checks that looked like they were coming from an aquaintance as opposed to coming from a company (i.e. a payroll check).

I have worked at a bank before and every bank handles things differently. You check that you have deposited may not have gone through the system yet, so you might not see that. Try calling your bank and see what they can tell you about it. Don't throw away your slips.

Don't work in banking, but...

The slips I get from the ATM are never accurate, always behind. I know mine don't include the deposit that I just made.

More accurate than the online/phone/bank balance inquiries is the info that I keep on my Microsoft Money program. I use the internet & phone if I need to know if they have cleared yet.
