Question for AKV owners

I love AKV everything about it, one of the best things for me is being able to sit on my balcony and watch the animals every morning while having my tea. I guess it is just personal preference I can't see the draw of BCV or BLT and I would never stay at either one of them.

Same for us, BLT seems so sterile/modern to us. We just LOVE the AKV. Everything from the fantastic food to the fantastic theme to the wonderful rooms and amenities. It feels like a vacation in a vacation! We have fell in love with AKV the first time we stayed and bought DVC that trip. We'd been to many other deluxe resorts including the Poly and for us, AKV blows them out of the water.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but have a question for those that have been there. I am planning on bringing 3 of my grandchildren away next June.;ages 15,13,and 12. I would love to possibly try AKV for a split stay. My concern is the restaurants and food there. Two of them are such fussy eaters that I am worried they will not like the themed foods.Do they have american meals too; ex hotdogs, cheeseburgers?I would hate to have to take buses to find places for my little fuss pots to eat. thanks:goodvibes

We didn't eat at Boma but my littlest had a hamburger at Jiko. It's Disney they know kids are going to eat there - just ask if its not on the menu. Have fun.:thumbsup2

we have been going to boma for many years and i have never seen a burger there. it is a buffet.;)

my grandchildren always found things they loved there. in fact is is their favorite restaurant in all of disney, and that includes the expensive ones. the 2nd favorite is narcoossee's, and then beaches and cream. the soups at boma are tops of any restaurant i know anywhere.::yes::

mara has hamburgers and such, and seems to be pretty good. they even have zebra domes.:thumbsup2

:) I really enjoy these kinda threads sometimes because everyone is different and expresses those differences. I am sure if the OP had an opportunity to spend the night in any of the DVC villas they would jump on it .....heck it is WDW and dang what a luxury....and no you didn't sound rude and neither did the OP. We share a dream come true....where else do you get the animal jungle vibe, wonderful water features, decor that while maybe drab bliends in with the surroundings..

I can't wait til Oct either we arrive 10/28 and stay for 9 gloriuous nights in a studio with SV. Last Dec. it was Pop on the back of the resort looking at the deserted Vintage Years hotel lobby.

Ahh, yes - the Vintage Years section - some have referred to this as the "Chernobyl View" while others have argued it's the "Post-war East Germany View" - me, I just think they're splitting hairs - no matter what you call it, it's a little slice of classic Soviet Bloc Steel Curtain urbanization brought to us courtesy of Disney! ;)

can't weigh in on kidani yet, but we stayed at jambo two years ago, (i believe we were the second occupants of our villa, if i remember it right), and the comment of dw put it best. "this is the best one yet, they got it all right". and she was right, the decor was tremendous. all i could think was if they did this with already existing rooms, how good will rooms from scratch be? (btw we have stayed at all dvc except ssr, gcv and blt.)

we get to find out next summer, and we'll compare and contrast with blt as we plan to split time between the two.

We bought into AK without seeing it--just the model at SSR. During our trip this year (Dev. points at SSR), we took some time to go and see what we actually bought into. It was better than our expectations--I love the dark, rich tones inside the buildings. I know some think the outside is drab, but it fits the African theme perfectly. It would look ridiculous if the outside of the building resembled an SSR building or BLT. As soon as we stepped off the bus, all of the kids wanted to know why we didn't stay here--and that was just the statement from the view of the outside of the building. SSR was nice, it just wasn't for us (although I wouldn't complain if I had to stay there again). We have already booked Kidani for next year and can't wait! I enjoy the strong theme of AKV, including the exterior of the buildings. Everyone has their own tastes and I appreciate that DVC recognizes that.

We also bought AKV sight unseen. While staying at SSR in June we visited the models and had dinner at Boma and knew we had made the right decision. We loved it. We are kind of an "earthy/ outdoorsey" family so it is perfect for us. Also, it is probably as close to Africa as we will EVER get.

They have quick service foods at Mara at Jambo House. They have fried shrimp, french fries, cheeseburgers, roasted chicken, caesar salad, etc. My 12 year old DD loved the Turkey Ciabatta sandwhich. We all love the breakfast at Boma. It was a great buffet with all kinds of "normal" foods.
