We're staying at AKL for the first time in three weeks.
So I wanted to ask the AKL experts, what's the one special thing to do/see at AKL that we shouldn't miss? thanks

I love room service. They set it up so pretty.

Coffee out on your balcony.

I hear the culinary tour is awesome.

Boma has GREAT food.

Boma for sure, amazing soups!!!
Night vision viewing of the savanah
Marshmallow roasting

I can't get enough of the resort, its so beautiful and amazing. Whether I'm staying there or not on a trip, its always a part of it.

Marshmallow roasting?!

I'd say really everything, that resort is fantastic I love it! It's one of my favorite ones of all time. But I'll say you shouldn't miss the animal view, the fireplace inside the lobby, and contemplating your balcony. Enjoy your stay!

Thank you all. Great suggestions.

Another question: I read somewhere that most of the animals aren't out from 6 am to noon. Is that correct?

Not sure about that. There seemed to be plenty out in the morning before we left for the parks.

Our fav thi gs were the Cultural Safari in the evenings, night vision scopes, and Culinary Tour. And of course sitting on balcony and watching the savana. Or from a public look out. Loved walking around Arusha Rock look out, and talking with the CMs

You will see the animals when you wake up in the morning, even if you are a late riser. They don't take the animals in until later in the morning or afternoon.

Boma is always a big part of our AKL stays/visits. We enjoy seeing the animals, but we also love just walking around the resort taking everything in. The resort/grounds are beautiful that it's relaxing for us just to walk around :goodvibes.

Great thread! We're staying there in September for the first time too and all of these tips have been very helpful! :thumbsup2

Thank you again.

I have an ADR at Boma for dinner on the first night. We will arrive at around 11:30 and are staying club level, so I figured check in, grab a quick snack and off to MK. (First ride is always the carousel.) I think if we leave MK around 7 pm, we should have some time to wander around outside before dinner at 8:30.

I have also scheduled the sunrise safari for later in the week. Can't wait for that!!

We like the savannah view, so one of my favorite things to do is to sit on the balcony, enjoy my coffee and newspaper/book/ipad while watching the animals in the (preferably early) morning.:coffee: It’s nice at dusk too with an appropriate beverage as well. Just take some time...relax... and enjoy your surroundings.

This is going to sound really simple, but take some time to just enjoy the beautiful lobby. Maybe sit down by the fireplace and write a postcard to a friend or family members at home. Walk around and take pictures of the details. Take the elevator up to one of the upper levels and walk across the little bridge that runs over top of the lobby. It's a really great resort, and in my opinion it is the resort that does the best job of transporting guests to an entirely new experience.

Also, Jiko is an amazing restaurant, so if you have the time and money, I'd recommend a relaxed dinner there (as in, don't plan to go out to the parks afterwards, or plan it for a very late time). Boma is great also, but a less relaxing atmosphere.

Must dos-
1. do the culinary tour of Jiko and Boma (there's also one at Sanaa at Kidani that you can go on)
2. Ceramics painting used to be at AKL, Simba's Cubhouse-I hear it was over at Kidani last year, but I don't know now
3. Movies by the pool, behind the pool bar in the evening
4. Spend a little time in the Sunset Savannah lounge, next to the check in counter, either out on the baslcony watching the animals or sitting reading a book.

Ahhh-I can't wait to be sitting in the Sunset Savannah lounge myself in just one more month.

We saw animals out our balcony every morning...was a joy to wake up to!
Try to make sure you take some downtime to just roam the resort...it's beautiful, the cast members are wonderful, the food is yummy and the pool is awesome! Had a wonderful vacation there last summer...

When traveling to other parks or resorts, give yourself extra time....it's a bit far away...:)

Is it better to have a rental car to travel between parks/resorts when staying at AKL or to just rely on the busses? We've only ever stayed at monorail resorts.
