Hi.

I booked flights on Saturday for my daughter and her son for October, since they will be coming on a trip with my mom and me.
My daughter was married in August but her last name hasn't changed to her married name. This won't happen before October.

I booked my daughter's flight with her married name (I know, stupid me for guessing LOL). I just tried to call Delta and it is a 90 minute
wait to speak to someone and I leave work in less than an hour (where I am calling from).

I will call Delta tonight, it's over 24 hours so cannot cancel/rebook, but do you think this will be a big issue getting through
security with a different last name (her license and passport match her now name) vs her ticket?

Has this happened to anyone before on here? Can she "just" show her marriage license?

Thank you.

Thank you all so much. This is exactly what I know and figured. I have tried the text feature, on hold and now will also leave my cell number. I wish she would have said oh, make sure baby/my name different LOL

Call early in the morning. They won't let her through TSA without the name matching.

Will they reissue the ticket with her name corrected without charging a change fee? When I worked at a travel agency, I misspelled a passenger's last name (it was 20 letters long) and had to plead my case for the correction to be allowed without a charge from the airline.

I think Delta (most carriers?) have waived their change fees for the last year or so.

I wouldn't expect there to be a change fee for correcting a name. Call and explain. I had a friend named Terry, his legal name is Terrance, when our company booked his flight they made it in Terry. No problem to call and get it fixed.

It may be possible that they will change it at n/c due to the more lenient rules now in place, but when DH bought our honeymoon tickets, he foolishly did the same thing, and Delta insisted we pay the change fee -- that was pre-9/11 btw.

Usually TSA will allow simple spelling errors or common nicknames (James/Jim, etc.) to go through if the ticket is domestic, but a completely different surname from the ID is a horse of a different color; you do have to ask the airline to change it.

I had to have a name changed on a flight recently.
I misunderstood a friend when I book flights for all of us.
I asked for legal names for each person and I got 2 of them mixed up
Found out that her daughter that goes buy Carly has a legal name of Carol. I thought Carol was someone else's legal name so I bought tickets for Carol, Carly, me and my friend.
I had to call and explain what I did. They were able, without any issue, to redo the names on the tickets.

Thank you all so much!

I used the "text message" feature yesterday and it took from 2:50 pm - 4:05 pm (I just looked) to get it resolved. I wasn't the only person they help at one time so it was a few questions back/forth and by 4:05, the last name was changed, without a fee and a new ticket issued. I liked the text message feature too which was a first for me. I was able to start the conversation, leave work, go to gym and answer when then had a question.

Thank you all again. I am SO happy I noticed this and asked now, just two days after getting the tickets.
