This will by our first trip to WL and my DS (4yr) is more excited about the pool than anything else. He really wants to try the slide but doesn't want to go down without DD. Are there any rules against this?

You are not allowed to ride two people on the slide at one time and the lifeguards enforce this rule.

Only one person down the slide at a time. Everytime we have been there, the lifeguards have been very strict about this.

There may be lifevests you could use for him, I know they have them at moderates, I'm not sure about WL though???

They had (free) life vests when we were there in 9/03. They are over by the boat rental.

Bummer, I wish they wouldn't enforce it ;) it is the only way our 4 year old would go down too : (

Yes, this particular slide is 1 person at a time.

I'd HIGHLY recommend you go down this slide before you let your young child. It is MUCH faster than it looks. The water kindof "forces" you down pretty fast and you are very likely to dunk your head.

If you feel you child can handle the slide, you can stand fairly close to where s/he will come out to help them.

Thanks for that info Kimberle, I don't think my four year old would like it with your description, but I'll give it a try : )

I was a lifeguard through college, and one of the pools I worked at had a slide. I had to make more saves at the bottom of that slide than everywhere else combined, because the force of the water coming off the slide caused a bit of a whirlpool. Small children (basically any child who was too short to have at least head and shoulders above the water when standing on the bottom of the pool) simply weren't strong enough to get out of the whirlpool by themselves.

So what I'm saying is: Yes, parents, please stand at the bottom (off to the side, not directly in front), waiting for your child to come down, so that you can help him/her away from the slide.

I think all the WDW resort slides are one person. The lifegaurd at the WL and the Poly have a field day yelling at everyone trying to go down together.

My DS was 4 years old last time we were at the WL and he had waterwings on his arms. He went down the slide a few times and loved it. Then I was waiting at the bottom of slide for him, I heard a loud THUMP! He was going down so fast that he spun around and his head hit the side of the pool as he was sliding around the last corner. I ran to the bottom and caught him. He got a nice lump on his head :-( The life guard told us that he should go down the slide with his hands down by his sides almost touching the bottom of the slide to protect him from falling over and spinning around. We got him to go down one more time so he wouldn't be afraid of it. But it does go a little fast for tiny ones as the previous poster said. It is fun, but don't think it is slow because it is short.

P.S. We are going back to the WL next week and my son is almost 6 now. He is very excited to go down the water slide this time!

The slide at WL is definitely made more for bigger kids and adults, but if your 4 YO can follow directions pretty well, is somewhat adventurous and you wait for him at the bottom, this slide should pose no big problems for him.
