I have been following the dukan diet with great success (about 12 pounds in a little over 2 weeks). I am loving the instant results but I am started to have some doubts about it's long term healthiness. I am working out 5-6 days a week with all of my workouts being less than an hour.....but soon I will be working out 6 days a week with long runs up to 20 miles (marathon training). I am wondering if maybe I should be eating more carbs (for energy) but I am kind of scared of what the results may be (gaining it all back).

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was thinking of trying to add maybe an apple every afternoon and see how my body tolerates it and then go from there adding back complex carbs.

Hey. I dont know if that would still work. . Maybe you should hit consolidation and see how your body handles it. Try to mantain your weight.

Hey there, I did Dukan with great success (lost 15 lbs over 6 weeks) and kept it off until the holiday season and then just started ignoring it all together. I find that I need some extra carbs and fruits/vegetables with all the protein to sustain a long workout. I'm training for a few half marathons now and just can't manage my workouts without it. Plus I'm sure the gels, sports drinks and the like would be off limits because of the sugar, but they're staples for me. I think you just have to find a balance and do what feels right for your body. I know when my weight starts to creep up and try to up my protein a bit. Good luck! :)

The Dukan diet is a low carb diet which focuses more on the consumption of protein-rich foods in its first two stages. Carbs ARE re-introduced to your diet in the third stage, so don’t worry about that. I lost 24 pounds while I was on the diet last year and I’ve managed to keep the weight off. I have no trouble managing this diet. I eat limited portions of carbs and I’ve made a few alterations to my diet. I eat whole wheat pasta and brown rice instead of the regular. It helps with the diet.
