Question about visiting the resorts other than where you are staying

I am pretty much a newbie-- haven't been to the world since 1993, when I was graduating high school. We are going in two weeks (YAY!) and staying at POP. I know many people go visit other resorts to walk around and/or to dine, but I was wondering if it is okay to go to a "beach" that is at a resort you are not staying at...

I know using the pools at other resorts is frowned upon (understandably), but I wasn't sure about the beaches. I know my 2 year old daughter would be in heaven if she got to pay in the sand at some point... So, I was just wondering!

I go to the poly to watch wishes a lot....plenty of room to play in the sand
there.

Absolutely! In fact, I think WDW encourages it! It's nice to check out the resorts so you know where you want to stay next time!

My dh and I check out a couple of other resorts every visit. I believe this trip (in 25 days) we will check out AKL and then we will have seen them all. We love to make ADR's at other resorts. We get there early and walk around to check it out. We stay--every year--at POR and we love it there. Go and enjoy yourselves.

I think with a pool, they are concerned about filling occupancy with non-guests. I can respect Disney not wanting other resort guests consuming "resources" intended for the guest of that specific hotel.

I think the beach would be fair game. The idea that you will be taking away beach space from a resort guest is pretty funny. I'd like to see them make that argument! I'd go and make your little one happy.

There is a sign at the Polynesian that says the beach is for the exclusive use of registered guests. The beach at the Beach Club has no rules like that, so it might be a better choice.

The big thing that seems to come up on the DIS about pools is the limited seating in the pool area. A resort's beach could potentially have the same problem, but I have never been at any of the resort beaches where there was a lack of open lounge chairs.

I would agree with the seating at the pools.

My only point was that I do believe a mother with her little girl playing on the sand is not going to disturb beach goers or cause a problem with space. If she was bringing a grand gatherings, then perhaps yes.

My wife and I decided to visit the Polynesian and have dinner at Kona. Our waitress encouraged us to check out the resort and watch the fireworks and the EWP from the beach. That is when we fell in love the the Poly. We are planning our 13th visit to the Poly this June. I can't believe there would be a problem with your visit. This is how the Poly gets (and keeps) its large fan base - you have to see it to believe it! If some one had told me to get off the beach during my initial visit, I would NEVER have stepped foot at the Poly again and would have reconsidered the whole Disney experience. I say go visit one of the greatest resorts (IMHO) at WDW, have dinner at Kona or 'Ohana, then go down to the beach with a Mai Tai from the Tambu Lounge. If anyone has a problem with it - tell them to get lost! I'm sure no one will have a problem with it though because of the Disney formula ...

They used to have that sign but I believe it is now gone.

I went to the Poly on Dec. 9 to watch the Electrical Water Pageant and didn't see this sign anywhere.

Not to mention that bacteria that has been known to make you very ill. I'd have dinner at O'hanas then watch the fireworks from the beach while your daughter plays in the sand. She'll have such a good time at O'hanas and then on the beach, I'm sure it will be a highlight of the vacation for her.

OMG I actually DO worry about this!!! This is our first visit to FL and WDW. We leave on the 23rd of this month. I've actually heard of a little boy being killed in FL (not at wdw) by a gator a few years ago. Are they really in the water by WDW? I'm from MN and have absolutely NO CLUE when it comes to this stuff!! I rarely get out much!

You can expect gators in any body of water in FL that is big enough for them to "hide" in. Gators in general will try to stay away from the commotion the boats make, and once they reach a certain size Disney will relocate them if they are found anywhere near a guest area.
In all my years of going to Disney(since I was 1)I have never seen a gator near any of the hotel beaches, in the canals at Fort Wilderness yes, but never in Bay Lake or Seven Seas Lagoon.

One of my families favorite things to do at WDW is visit all the resorts. We always visit the Poly for breakfast at Kona Cafe or dinner at Ohana and then walk along the sandy beach. We some times rent the water mice too. They are fun. We really enjoy relaxing on the swings on the beach and they make for a great pic. Enjoy your time there and be sure to check out all the great resorts.
