Question about viewing the Tree of Life up close

Hi all-- MIL is coming with us and really wants to get up closer to the Tree of Life than before.

Now, we have never gone on It's Tough To Be A Bug, which I know is near the base of the treee, correct?

Not sure if the kiddos will be up for that attraction, so can we walk down that way and get some up close views of the Tree of Life, and either walk back out the way we came or use some sort of "chicken" exit?

Anyone know?

There is a path that winds around the base of the tree that is not associated with Its Tough to be a Bug. I spent at least 45 minutes enjoying the tree and the garden on my last trip. I always have a hard time finding the entrance, though, and always have to ask a CM. (It's a great place for pictures, too!)

There is a chicken exit - been there - done that. My DD was only barely 5 then and is still (at almost 8) very hesitant about dark, fast, loud and intense. We had a feeling that this attraction would be iffy, and even though they ask you to move all the way to the end of the row and just take the seat you end up in (all views are good), we asked to switch with the people near the exit door so we could make a quick getaway if needed. Sure enough, as soon as the stink-bug set himself off she started screaming and we made a quick and close dash for that door (at which there was a CM to help us make our escape). We are hoping this won't happen again, because my DS is 5 and fearless and he has seen the planning video and insists we are doing this attrcation.:earsboy: :earsgirl: :earseek: :earsboy:

I don't know about a "chicken out" exit, but nothing would stop you from proceeding thru the theater and out the other side while it is loading. There are so many nice carvings that can only be seen as you are winding thru the line to ITTBAB. We discover one we never saw before each time.

Just a funny little note about the stink bug...

My thrill-ride-loving DD (almost 6) was in It's Tough to Be a Bug...She hated it, but we stayed the duration. Afterwards, she said (during lunch I might add), "That stink bug peed on us!" To which I replied, "Gross -- we'd better go wash it off right away!". She then took a bite of her sandwich and said, "No, it's okay, It's all dried off now. See?" and showed me her arms.

Can anyone give me an idea of where this path is that you can get close to the base of the Tree.

near Island Mercantile? Flame Tree? Elsewhere?

I went on it 2 years ago, then couldn't find the path last year. I was just there, found the path, and this is what I wrote down for future directions. On the right, the entrance is just behing the fast pass machines to ITTBAB. There's also a glass enclosed pond right there. The left entrance is just behind an ice cream cart (if they've moved that cart, I'm in trouble!) across from Pizzafari. Please let me know if you find that path-it's been so hard to find.

Don't forget to stop and get a picture of yourself with David Greybeard. It's one of my most cherished pictures from the ToL. It was neat to see WDW's tribute to Jane Goodall up close and personal. Mickey
