Question about using Gift Cards onboard

I bought a $500 Disney Gift card and when I was peeling the back off it ripped the numbers off. There's no fixing it. We have to go through some process at our grocery store, fill out some kind of claim, etc. to get it replaced. We are going on a DCL cruise this week. If I bring the gift card with me, can I use it at guest services for our account? Do they only use the barcode or do they need the numbers on the back? I don't recall them peeling the back off before but not 100% sure. Thanks!

I'm not sure if the cruiseline has the scanners - in the past they've always just swiped it. I've not gone with a card that didn't have a magnetic stripe though.

They swipe the card but my question at this point is how badly is the card damaged,? If the damage is very noticeable to a cashier will they think it's been tampered with,?
Do you still have the tape that you peeled off and you can read the nuumbers,? Your receipt may have some numbers on.
If so
1. get on the check balance web site and make sure you have the correct numbers
2. Call DCL and buy on board credit or make a payment or something , giving them the numbers you know are correct.
This way you won't be dealing with the card at all and you won't be anxious about it. So it won't matter what condition the card is in.
For future reference incase you do get it replaced. ..I've never pulled off the tape the numbers are on. All I have done is scratch the black with my fingernail. That reveals the numbers.

In addition to my other response...there is a cast member offering to answer questions on this board. The thread is on the first page currently. Try asking there.

The only time they need the number is if the magnetic tape is damaged. You slide the cards just like you would in a store.

I would purchase another Disney Gift Card of whatever value, and then go to www.DisneyGiftCard.com
There, I would combine the amount of value from your damaged, but valid card onto the newer, more-presentable media.
You will need the 16-digit card# and the 8 digit EAN from both cards to do this.
