Question about Two Bedroom Villas

If I were to book a Two Bedroom Villa through cash and not points, would it be a dedicated two bedroom or a lock-off? From what I've been reading when DVC members book they have separate categories, but when I look at hotels I'm just seeing Two Bedroom Villa. Does that mean it's a dedicated one?

No. Some resorts only have lock-offs. Dedicated 2-bedrooms are very popular with some owners because of the 2nd bedroom has two real beds and no door that leads into the hall. Room assignment will be dependent on how owners have booked their villas. You can request a dedicated 2-bedroom but like all other room requests, they are not guaranteed.

We have booked a cash reservation for a 2 br villa at the Beach Club for three separate trips. One time we received a dedicated two bedroom and twice we received a lock off. The dedicated 2 br villa means that there is one door to enter the villa. The lockoff means that the 2nd br has both an entry to the villa and a separate entry door to the hallway and can be "locked off" from the villa, becoming a studio for a separate family. The studio has a kitchentte. The 2nd bedroom in a dedicated villa doesn't have a kitchenette.

Although to add to the confusion, I believe the DVC website refers to two-bedrooms and two-bedroom lock-offs. I think of them as two-bedroom dedicated and two-bedroom lock-offs, but I don't think DVC uses the word "dedicated" in its two-bedroom categories.

I was just wondering because on most hotels I only see "Two Bedroom Villa" but on Boardwalk Villas it only shows "Two Bedroom Lock-Off". I'm assuming that's because that hotel only has lock-offs and the others have both so you could be assigned either?

I'm thinking about it for a future trip that will involve small kids. I feel like a dedicated would be better so you don't have to worry about the kids just walking out the door attached to their room.

All the two bedroom villas at BWV are lockoffs. No dedicated. Same with Jambo House at AKL/AKV.
