I am someone who can really get bent over a shows bloopers. I like the show How I Met Your Mother...last night it started to annoy me that I don't know if they are in present day- or they are supposed to be 20 years in the past.

The premise of the show is the guy is telling his teen children the story of how he met their mother 20-25 years ago (not sure which, I am thinking the latter). The kids are sometimes seen on the couch, listening. Are they in the future, and he is talking about 2005/06? Or has the show gotten lazy and "forgot" that in 80's nobody had those compact cell phones. I know it is just a show, and it is comedy, but I can't get past this HUGE blooper. If they don't want to "go" with the premise of the show, then they should just call it "Ted Loves Robin" who doesn't end up being the kids mother anyway, so we know this love connection doesn't go anywhere.

I think I am going to e-mail TV Guide and ask them. :)

They're in the present day, the kids are in the future

It's set in present day. When you see him talking to his kids it says on the screen that it's the year 2030, or something like that.

Yeah - you must be missing the very beginning of each episode - they give the year when the "dad" starts to talk to the bored-looking teens sitting on the couch.

:duck: Thanks for explaining that - I've never caught the beginning of the show, so I didn't know about the kids. I was wondering what the title meant!

I watch that show too and what I want to know is....

Are we ever going to find out who their mother is???? It drives me crazy that it will have to be the last show ever, for us to find out who it is.

They call Robin, Aunt Robin so it can't be her.

Although I really like it, I don't see it as having much staying power. So we probably will get to see who the mother is perhaps in the series finale after another season or two. That is if it just doesn't get yanked.

In the very first episode Ted tells his kids how he met Robyn, and at the end goes "And that's how I met your mother's sister." So in the end he must marry Robyn's sister.. whom we haven't met yet. I enjoy this show, Barney cracks me up!

Actually, I THINK he said "That's how I met your Aunt Robin" which had me wondering do they call her AUNT just because they are still good friends or is she LITERALLY their aunt.

I like the cast and think the show has potential but I don't like the name they chose for the show. It really limits the show's possibilities, IMHO.

Barney is hilarious.

They have left that unclear, could be either scenario.

Yes, I think because they are becoming close friend's, they must stay that way, and they kids just call her Aunt. I believe the woman at the end of last night's episode may be "mom".

I watch this show on and off. Usually if there is nothing else on before Two and a Half Men. They have a great cast and some really funny stories, but the whole Ted loves Robin thing does me in. Since we KNOW he doesn't marry Robin, it all seems kind of stupid...and didn't we do this for about 10 years on Friends with Ross and Rachel! JMO.

This may make it worse for some, but it's possible Aunt Robyn is his EX-wife or EX-SO.
