Ok, I'm not talking about my kids...I'm talking about ME! I see all these great restaurants with great experiences....however, I (and the rest of my family) don't like things too fancy, and aren't into ethnic foods. Steak, potatoes, chicken...that's the stuff we like...so looking at places like Ohana and Boma and we don't like all the special seasonings and things that come at those places....are we missing out by not going to these places....here are our ADRs.

Planet Hollywood
Trail's End
Le Cellier
Chef Mickey
Yachtsman
We also plan on Beaches & Cream
and we have one more open night...
where can we go so we don't miss out, but there is still PLAIN old American flavored food?

thanks!

If you want plane jane meat and potatoes I think the Garden Grill (Character Meal) in Epcot or The Liberty Tree Taven is as American a sit down meal can get. We make it a point to eat at Liberty Tree Tavern every trip. The food is awesome and it really is American. Here is the Liberty Tree Tavern dinner menu:

I am an EXTREMELY fussy eater as well, but as long as you like a good steak there is always something you can eat in Disney.

You can check out menus here also:

BTW - If you like steak Le Cellier is a FANTASTIC choice!!!

I agree, check out the menus to make sure there is something there you will like. Even the "ethnic" option have a selection for picky eaters. Disney is really good about catering to everyone's needs. Have fun, and good luck!

Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. I have read a ton of reviews on this place and it is meat and potatoes kind of food and the servers perform antics and cut up with the patrons, from what I have read, never been there myself yet. It is one of our ADR's for our trip in October.

Loving the suggestions so far! Thanks guys! I constantly am looking up menus, and I do know that there are more "American" options at most of the restaurants, but since that's what we all eat, we want more than 1 or 2 choices. Whispering Canyon does sound good...Keep the suggestions coming! Like I said, I would like to find one more place to make ADR, where the dining is more of a fun experience for everyone, including the kids...as our current ADRs aren't really set up for them!

Thanks again!

i'm EXTREMELY picky, and what i'm not picky about... i'm allergic to :lmao:

we go to most all restaurants on property and they are ALL accommodating. at the steakhouses i get no sauce, and plain mashed potatoes or fries. at san angel inn (mexican) i tell them i want a plain steak and a side of rice... they make it happen!! i modify almost everything i eat and they are sooooooo good about it. don't be scared to make reservations anywhere! i also check out the kids menus to see what else they may offer like fries or mac and cheese that i can substiute a crazy side item for!!

you will LOVE yachtsman!! it's just fabulous!! get the filet!!

as picky as i am... i totally love ohana. other favorites of my picky self include the captain's grille, via napoli, grand floridian cafe, and chefs de france. big river grille is also pretty "american" lol!!

enjoy!

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, 50's Prime Time Cafe might be right up your alley. Try The Plaza at the Magic Kingdom for great sandwiches and a sit down meal. I have lots of eaters like you in my family and I keep this in mind for our vacations too. There are plenty of places to try, but your list looks great too.

I agree with this PP regarding 50s Prime Time. Not only the food similar to home cooking (fried chicken, pot roast), the restaurant is themed and fun for kids.

I'll also put in a vote for 50's PTC and Whispering CC - they both serve what I think of as "American" fare - pot roast, fried chicken, meatloaf at 50's PTC - ribs, sausage, barbecued chicken and pulled pork sandwiches, etc. at Whispering CC. We like all kinds of foods and we have enjoyed both of these places more than once in the past.

Thank goodness there are plenty of options for all kinds of eaters at WDW!

I am very PICKY!! Keeping the kids in mind...........I like Coral reef. The chicken-minus sauce and sub mashed potato for spaetzel (?!). It is TDF. DS, he likes the sauce as it has bacon in it, and I love it! RFC and T-Rex are good for getting plain food but not on DDP. BTW your other choices are some of my fav places!
Oh yea, the food at 50's is mostly just regular food. But I found the meatloaf to be too sweet. JMO!!

in the Magic Kingdom We love Liberty Tree Tavern for their Fried Cheese appetizer(basically mozzerella sticks & marinara) and the traditional Turkey Dinner. But they have burgers and other normal stuff too, Plus Beer!

Ok... as much as I love Liberty Tree Tavern, I am very, VERY sure that they do not serve beer. :rotfl2: Because, as we all know, no alcohol is served anywhere in Magic Kingdom.

I am traveling with a couple that, much like the OP, like what they all "normal food". Basically meat, potatoes, and no unusual seasonings or sauces. That being said, they also love buffets with lots of variety, and I promised them that every buffet has some basic offerings (mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, chicken) along side the more exotic fare. So here are our choices for December:

Biergarten (recommended by a co-worker and his picky family)
Crystal Palace
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Planet Hollywood
Tusker House
50's Prime Time

Sorry, NO Beer in the MK. The MK is alcohol free. You must be thinking of somewhere else

My family is pretty picky, youngest is pizza, chicken strips, mac and cheese, steak if there is nothing else on the menu to choose. If you guys are staying at the campground, I would definately hop over to WL and eat at Whispering Canyon, we ate there and loved it. Me and hubby had steak, very good, kids had a burger and chicken, somebody in our group had a skillet, good and lots of it. Its also a fun restaurant. On our late day at MK, we made ressies for the Grand Floridian Cafe at the Grand Floridian, eat and then go to the park. I've heard really good reviews of this place and by looking at the menu it has our type of food and it decently priced. Chef Mickeys was fun and we loved it, but the food was not great, but same with the character meal at Crystal Palace. Our favorite of all is Le Cellier. If you order a steak at Le Cellier it comes with some kind of polenta or something like that, we substitute cream cheese mashed potatoes for this(we got that info here on the boards, because don't think it is on the menu) and they are awesome. Just a suggestion. And Boma, in our opinion, sucked. But it just was not our cup of tea, because of the spices and such, But alot of people love it. We just wanted to see if we were missing out, we have been there and done that, won't be back.

I am also VERY picky... and have been to most restaurants on property. I agree- I can always find something that works for me! :thumbsup2

Hey Im not that fussy but i really do enjoy good food! that aside my fav thing to eat is Steak
Coming from England we love the food in America, but i travel with my mum who is a vary sraight meat potatoe type of girl!
We have really enjoyed the following places,
Grand Floridian Cafe-at the Grand Floridian hotel.
Planet Holyywood is always one of our stops so great choice!!! The decor is Amazing as is the atmosphere.
Coral Reef i do think you can miss out if you dont eat here, you can get most types of meat, So a great steak! with veg and mash! yummy desserts and some wonderful fish choices but without all the fuss and the steep price, If you have kids then what is better then them looking at the huge tank and I mean huge! the whole place is wonderfully decorated I make this a must every stay!

Crystal Palace a firm favourite of my family for as long as i can remeber as a child and as a adult with my own kids! No place better to meet Winnie Pooh and friends, and for another great Charecter meal that is straight buffet typr food, although its def more for the Handy manny JojO AND FRIENDS CHARECTERS THEN THE FOOD IS hOLLY WOOD AND VINE,

Now LE CELLIER is one of the best places i have been to at Disney! as somebody else mentioned the Steak is brilliant for flavour and the way its cooked to perfection, but on the menu it comes with Risotto, well i dont eat carbs so I just asked to have it with fresh seasonal veg and thats exactly what i got! I could still have the sauce if i wanted it! but i could have it served in a little jug on the side incase i didnt like it , its just a fancy mushroom like sauce so you dont have to have the fancy stuff that comes with the food on the menu!
Disney is one of the most accomadating places i have ever been to like i said i tend to stay away from carbs, and they would switch anything i didnt like for some other choice, so unless its a place like BOMA where you know you wont eat most of the food, even though they do still do plain choices, dont please rule out the other fancier places for being worried about the food, enjoy the surroundings of the beautiful out of this world restaurents and just ask to switch things you dont fancy!

Just to add 2 of the best places for breakfast are Tusker house in AK Amazing no other breakfast food like it honestly and the Donald micky etc experience is really good there, the other is Akershus in Norway at Epcot the Princess experience was really 1to 1 fantastic and the breakfast came with as much as you could eat fruit, yoghurt, muffins, hot plates of sausage eggs breakfast potatoes bacon and plenty of fruit juices! I had to add these as i didnt try them for a good 10 times we went now we make it one of our main places to eat!

Have a fab holiday and enjoy the Disney Restaurent experience ...

No beer in the Magic Kingdom. The fried cheese and burgers are served at lunch, not dinner.

Yes, its Risotto, I said polenta, I don't eat either so I knew it was something I don't eat- at LeCellier. But the Filet was amazing regardless of what they serve with it. So, enjoy.

I am as picky as they come and didn't want to live on chicken tenders and fries... I don't eat scambled eggs either.. I do like Chicken but pretty plain and steak...

We eat at 50's Prime Time, WCC, Boma, Chef Mickey's, Grand Floridian Cafe, Via Napoli, 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace
