Question about Salty Food

Hello. This is my first post so hopefully I'm posting in the right place and doing this correctly. First I want to say how much I enjoy reading all the reviews from all of you. :)

My question is about the many reviews that I've read regarding how salty the food is. I wanted to ask if anyone has made a request for less salt and wanted to know if the food still turned out well?

Or for those who have eaten at the same restaurants many times are you noticing an increase of salt or has it always been salty?

We have stopped eating at all dinner buffets because the foods are just so salty (with the exception of Cape May Clambake)

If I have an item and it is just too salty I will send it back. Le Cellier cheese soup was just unbelievable...it was inedbile. We sent it back but I didnt request another one because I think it is just one large vat of soup and a new soup would be just as salty.

If you've ever seen a cooking show on TV, then you'd know that chefs / cooks are taught to 'season as they go'. Therefore, restaurant food might be saltier than you eat at home. Also, many menu items have cheese - which can add saltiness.

You should always be able to ask a professional kitchen to limit additional salt for an individual item. Unfortunately, this is not possible for food already placed in a buffet.

And obviously, avoid 'fast food' because this too is often sodium laced.

You can make arrangements to have low salt meals but you have to prearrange that! You can, at the time you place you're order have steaks, fish etc. plainly grilled with little or even no seasonings, Disney chefs will try to comply.

Some things can't be changed however, if you have salt issues, don't order the Beer Cheese Soup from Canada, I love it but between the bacon, and the aged white cheddar, it's on he salty side!

The only 'salty' item I really noticed was the risotto at Le Cellier but it was still great and I could eat it fine. This past trip 4 weeks ago, I had it again but it was not as salty and just perfect! Other than that, I don't really notice that the food is anymore salty than other restaurants (outside of WDW). Of course, if you are sensitive to it, make sure to ask for no salt (like on your fries) or seasoning.

Now, from someone who salts most of my food at home(I know>>>BAD) sometimes the food at the signature restuarants is too salty for me. Now I know why they don't put salt and pepper shakers on the tables anymore. I found the worst place was LeCellier followed by the Brown Derby.

Ah, you reminded me of something....we ate at the Yachtsman in Feb and DH had the caesar salad and it was so salty he had to send it back. The seasoned it before they brought it to the table and add that to the cheese it was just way too much

Ohana is hands down the saltiest restaurant there. Sometimes the meat is inedible.

I'm accustomed to a fairly low sodium diet--around 800 mg per day. Grew up with it and haven't found a reason to change it! *LOL*

Most WDW foods--particularly QS--are processed, and contain far more sodium than I typically consume in a day. Ditto for the buffets, although some items are better than others (salmon, roast beef, steak, turkey--although that has been a bit salty on occasion). Cooked veggies lean toward more salt than I like, but aren't too bad. Pretty much anything with cheese is guaranteed to be salty.

My taste buds are in shock the first few days, but settle down a bit after that. At buffets, I've learned to take a very small portion of anything with sauce or dressing (request it on the side at TS), then return for more if I like it, eliminate it if I don't. It's just trial and error. My BFF laughs at the way I eat at a buffet--usually return two or three times, but don't put a lot on a plate at one time.

Most Americans consume significantly more sodium daily than I do. As I said, I was raised by parents who followed a low-sodium diet, so it's ingrained in me. But I adapt to a large extent while on vacation--particularly at WDW! *LOL*

I am someone who uses a ton of salt at home and I find a lot of the food at Disney inedible because of how salty it is. I won't eat at any of the buffets (mostly because I think the food is bad in general) but they have to be the worst in terms of salt.

When you go to TS restaurants, I would just mention that you are on a low sodium diet and they should be able to take care of you with no problems.
