I am planning a split stay next fall - 4 nights at Pop with Free dining, then 5 nights DVC(hopefully BCV) with rented points. we will get our park tickets with our first hotel and can continue to use them at the 2nd hotel.

If staying on rented points, can we purchase the dining plan with no ticket purchase? Thanks!

When you have a reservation using DVC points, you can purchase the dining plan without purchasing tickets as part of the deal. So the tickets you purchase at the beginning of your stay will be good for the entire stay. By the time you make your reservation, DVC will probably have changed the dining plan payment to when you add it to your reservation.

That date was recently announced as Oct 14. So if you make a reservation on Oct 14 or later, you will have pay for the dining plan in total when it is added to the reservation.

Be sure to let the DVC member that you rent from know that you want the dining plan. They need to have that put on the reservation.

....the DVC member has to have it in your reservation 48 hours prior for you to have the Dining Plan option.....although you pay at check-in.

Like I added to my previous post, after Oct 13, the member will have to pay for the dining plan when it is added to the reservation. So someone renting a reservation will need to have the cash to the member to add dining.

According to all that's been sent out to members, the above is correct. If you contact Member Services to make a DVC reservation on October 14 or after, payment on a dining plan is due in full as soon as the dining plan is added to the reservation. It won't be paid for at check-in anymore.

This means that renters and the owners they rent from have to determine how they will pay for the plan, and when they will add it. Because Member Services won't deal with the renter, only with the owner, it'll have to be the owner who calls to add the plan and pay for it. It's going to be between the renter and the owner as to when the plan will be added and how the renter will get the money for the plan to the owner.

The plan still has to be added to the reservation no later than 48 hours before arrival.

.....all existing reservation and reservations made by Oct 13 are " business as usual." it seems that getting reservations locked before October 13 would be smart if planning to rent. This will certainly complicate renting.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to better protect the renter? I am an owner who has rented out points, and I am sure fewer renters want to pay in advance for a plan that could easily be cancelled then credited back to someone else's credit card. Would Paypal cover for this type of transaction?

Any ideas out there for how to better protect renters with these new rules?

Forget about the dining plan. Paypal isn't a friend to either party. Just ask Sammie.

Kinda. But I was told by MS that if there are ANY changes to the reservation after the 14th they will have to pay for the dining plan at that time. So make sure all changes to the reservation are done prior to the 14th including adding magical express.
