Question about renting a car through the Southwest site.

I can get the same price on a car through the Southwest site as i can through the car rental site itself. I would like to do this to get the rapid rewards. Can I cancel the reservation at anytime without penalty as I would through the car rental site itself? And, if I do rent through SW, will the RR show up in my account after the rental period? Thanks in advance.

When I rented cars via SW airline's website, I did not receive Rapid reward points, so you may want to call and ask them before doing it. You can ask about the cancellation policy, while you have them on the phone.

These days, I prefer to book through the company delivering the service as much as possible, unless I'm asking a dedicated travel agent to do the work for me. I do this with rental cars, hotels, and airlines. If there is an issue, I can get resolution directly from the company rep that I'm standing in front of instead of having to contact the reserving agency first.

Also, the company has better deals at different times, and it is easier to ask for the lower pricing if the reservation was booked with the supplier/carrier.

Yes, you can cancel without penalty through the Southwest website. Make sure you select Rapid Rewards Partners when chosing a rental car company and you will get your RR points. Some of the companies are not Partners. Also what I have done is link my RR info to my frequent auto rental clubs (Alamo ***********, Budget Fastbreak, Dollar Fastlane) so I can get SW points even if I rent direct from the rental agencies.
