I'll be at WDW in May and wanted to try the California Grill for dinner after reading so many good things about it on this board. I'm just curious about making a PS and being able to see the fireworks from the patio. The May hours haven't been posted yet ... so if I want to see the fireworks what would be a good time to make the PS for? Would 7:30 PM be too early or too late?

TIA :p

Based on your countdown clock, it looks like you are arriving around the 13th...

Your question is difficult to answer because of all the schedule changes and cuts being made by Disney.

First and foremost, the fireworks were only on Saturday's in May last year, until Memorial Day weekend. I doubt they will be any more frequent this year.

If we go by last year's schedule, the fireworks were at 10pm on the 11th and 18th. But with hours being cut so much vs. last year, there's a good chance they will be as early as 8pm or 9pm. I doubt they would close MK any earlier than 8pm on a Saturday in May.

Make it for any later than 7:30 and you run the risk of having the fireworks happen before your reservation.

Any earlier than 7:30, and you increase the risk of having to wait around after you eat, in the event the fireworks don't happen until 9:30 or 10.

I'd probably go with 7:30, then wait for the May hours to be released. Even then, I don't know that I'd try to time it perfectly, because the schedules could still change.

Thanks for the help raidermatt :p I was really hoping that they would have posted the May hours by now. I keep trying to think of when it starts to get dark or the earliest time they could start the fireworks ... I guess I'll just go ahead and make the PS and I can always try to change it later if necessary. I figure if we get to watch them from the CR then that will be cool... if not, that's okay too :p

Until the times are up, if you still want to make your PS be safe and make them for a Friday or Saturday at around 7ish and relax, take your time eating. Enjoy your dinner and wait until the music starts getting pumped into the restaurant.

The first time we ate at california grill, we did not have a good view of the fireworks from our table. We finished eating about 15 minutes before the fireworks began and just walked out onto the observation deck to watch the fireworks. It was really nice.
