question about plastic sheets at resorts?

Just wondering if anyone knows if Disney has plastic sheets or some method of planning for for guests with overactive bladder?

We are just worried about our nephew who just doesn't notice he has to go sometimes.

How about those kid-sized diapers? Might be a more sanitary solution overall.

I would be truly shocked to learn that the mattresses at Disney aren't encased in some type of plastic. Truly, it would surprise me if EVERY hotel didn't have plastic casing around their mattresses.

If in doubt, bring a $1 shower liner from the dollar store and place it between the sheet and the mattress to protect it.

We had a sick kid on our recent trip and he ended up wetting the bed (something we were not prepared for since it hasn't happened in 3 years). I called housekeeping the next morning and they told us "no problem, please just remove the bedding from the bed so housekeeping knows to put clean sheets on".

They have some barrier protection (ours was a fabric-like mattress cover) and the mattresses probably have some water repellent coating.

I have a funny story....we twice had the misfortune of spilling a beverage (one water, one juice) on the bed. I called to request new sheets and pulled the sheets so the staff would know which one to change. (I also left a note and an extra tip both times.)

Sure enough, when the bedding was replaced, there was a plastic sheet under the regular sheet; I gather that the staff had assumed the wetness was from pee. (or maybe that if we spilled once we'd do it again?)

The two spillings happened on two different trips, and neither time did I think to inform the staff that the liquid in question was just a beverage. I dont know why. It wasn't until I discovered the plastic sheet the second time that I recalled the first. They were on different trips to WDW, and at very different resorts.

If you know this is an issue, it may be wise to inform the staff in advance. I am sure it happens all the time, and indeed WDW may employ protective matress pads, but when it's an issue - they most certainly add a plastic sheet!

Further - good advice for all - if you happen to spill a beverage on the bed and need new sheets - be sure to let the staff know that liquid is a beverage- or you'll end up with plastic sheet under the regular one (plastic sheets are really uncomfortable in warm weather)

I put and take off my own sheet over the sheet on the bed. I do this every night. So often the bottom sheet gets messed up and I have to fix the bottom sheet. The bed has a thin cloth mattress pad underneath. I have stayed at all Values and most Deluxe. I have never seen a plastic covering on the bed.

I agree with one of the previous posters that maybe the Goodnights would be better idea. That is if they make them in his size.

Walt Disney World has and will provide protective padding/sheeting on your bed if you request it. They're GREAT with special needs!!!

I do know that WDW (and Disneyland Resort) will accommodate nearly all special requests, including mattress protection in the form of plastic sheets. Believe me when I tell you that you are not the first to request this type of assistance.

The Goodnights probably won't work.. He's 10... but it's an emotional response type issue.. (his parents are going through a pretty nasty divorce, and his problem started shortly after the breakup). He has medicine (not sure what it does) and typically we control it by limiting his fluid intake when he is with us, but that's not something we can really do at WDW. Just wanted to see if we needed to pack something (mattress pads are bulky).

XL Goodnights should work...the weight is over 100 lbs. I make my 9 year old wear them, he still has occassional accidents...at home I can deal with it, but I dont want someone else to have to deal with it while we are on vacation...or hear it from the brother who happens to be sharing the bed

Sorry to hear he is going through such a tough time. No kid should have to experience this. I am sure the Disney trip will be a nice get away for him. I will keep him in my prayers

When DSs were potty training we'd take the crib size waterproof pads along - they're big enough to place under the sheets where a kid sleeps yet small enough to pack easily. They're also soft, unlike some plastic sheets. They're not as cheap as someone else's suggestion though - a Dollar Store shower curtain! Great idea! We used to get the generic waterproof crib pads for like $6 - and then if one got soiled we'd just throw it away. For about $20 it was great peace of mind.

When we took a newly potty trained kid (WL - 2006, I guess?), they didn't have fitted sheets - they brought us up a shower curtain liner to place under the sheet. It was cold, noisy, and very uncomfortable. They don't keep regular plastic bed liners and they don't have any waterproof protection on the mattresses. I've always found it so odd that they don't - you gotta figure there's a lot of bed wetters at WDW at any given time, LOL. I also proved this when I spilled a bottle of wine (um... Oopsies...) on the bed. Soaked all the way through the sheets and into the mattress and they had to come switch out the mattress. I definitely bring my own solution if I was concerned that it was going to be an issue.

This past December was the first trip where I didn't require my now 9 year old daughter to wear Underjams (really not uncomfortable at all). Something about her bladder being underdeveloped or something (don't quote me, I don't remember what the doc said but basically it takes some longer than others). Anyway. I felt is was more considerate on our part for her to wear Underjams than to leave a potential pool of pee for mousekeeping. In the all our trips she only had an accident once but we were all grateful she had the jams on. They make them much large than she was wearing too.

She has a cousin whose parents gave in to her crying that she was too old for Underjams (must have had the same development issue) and she would periodically pee in her bed and wherever she was visiting as well. Her room had a pervasive urine odor that was awful. They used plastic sheets but whetever else they were doing wasn't working. Of course, I suppose since my daughter had smelled the older girl's room that might have been incentive to use the Underjams. She hasn't had an accident in a year and in fact, last month was the first time I took off our protective mattress cover.
