I thought Pinocchio was a Disney Ccharacrter. I was surprised to see it in the attraction. How does that work?

Thanks

Shrek is all about fairy tale characters, one of which is Pinocchio. Most characters that Disney uses were not created by Disney.

As Damo said most of Disney's movies are based off of fairy tales and stories that were around long before Disney got a hold of them. Shrek's Pinocchio does not look the same as Disney's Pinocchio so there is nothing Disney could do about them using the character.

Doesn't Disney now own Marvel? How is that going to work out over at IOA? ;)

Not sure if that is an actual question because of the winky....but contracts will keep Marvel at Universal as long as it is needed. There isn't an issue at the parks.

The following excerpt comes from Universal City Development Partners' (owner of Universal Studios Orlando) 10-K: "We have geographical exclusivity east of the Mississippi River with regard to the specific Marvel characters we utilize. The license for the Marvel properties does not prohibit its assignment and is for the duration of our use of attractions themed around Marvel characters."

Disney’s acquisition of Marvel is expected to have no effect on Universal Studios Florida, where visitors ride on attractions themed to Spider-Man and pose for photos with the Incredible Hulk at the Islands of Adventure theme park.

“Our agreement with Marvel stands for as long as we follow the terms of our existing contract and for as long as we want there to be a Marvel Super Hero Island,” said Universal Studios Florida spokesman Tom Schroder.

I don't doubt that about the their legal rights, I'm just wondering how long they will want to promote Disney owned brands in the future. For example, Disney could release new big summer movies with some of those Marvel characters which Universal would be at least indirectly marketing for them.

I don't think it would bother either one of them. Universal Studios released Peter, Pan. Also in the line for Soaring, I have heard music from several songs played in the entrance to Universal Studios. (Not to mention one piece of music that Disney used for their commercials was a song from the Universal Studios Peter Pan movie. It is called "Flying" and you can hear it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029QKABW/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk2 )

Any movie that is released with those characters would probably also bring in more interest for that section of their park so Universal will probably think of it as a win-win situation on both sides.

While it is true Universal could keep Marvel for as long ad they want,it wouldn't surprise me if there was a change at Marvel Superhero Island at some point. There already is a Spider Man clone ride themed to Transformers going in at Hollywood and Singapore which could be an option here.I love Marvel Island how it is now but would be open to a change and they have all the time in the world to come up with a great new theme.

I wouldn't mind having it change in a few years to Transformers. Should be pretty easy to retheme Dr. Doom and Hulk.
