Hi Everyone

We are going to orlando for two weeks on the 11 April 2003

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

My DS passport is only valid until July.

Does a passport need to be valid for six months before entering the States?

Many Thanks

Margie

Here's the info. from the US Embassy website on passports:

Passport Validity: If traveling under the Visa Waiver Program, the passport must be valid for at least 90 days from the date on which the holder enters the United States. If not, the holder will be admitted until the expiration date on the passport. Note: Passport holders from Andorra, Brunei, and San Marino must be in possession of a passport valid for at least six months from the date of departure from the United States, even if traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program.

So I guess it depends on what date in July your DS's passport expires.

Just read a bit more on the US Embassy site and it says:

My passport is not valid for six months, can I travel?
The requirement that a passport be valid for longer than six months of the holder's departure from the United States is waived in the case of a British passport holder. Therefore, your passport need only be valid for the period of time you will remain in the United States. If you are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program and your passport is not valid for 90 days, you will be admitted into the United States until the date on which your passport expires.

Basically it says the passport must be valid for a further 90 days from date of entry in travelling under the VWP, ie until the 11th July in your DH's case. So now you need to look at his passport and see what date in July it expires.

Although if he holds and airline ticket saying he's leaving in April...?

Maybe you should contact the embassy directly if you need confirmation.

I'd renew the passport now if it was us. That's just my prsonal opinion.

We renewed ours in January.

I did mine first by paying the extra to hAVE IT CHECKE D& SENT BY THE POST OFFICE & IT TOOK EXACTLY ONE WEEK.

i DID THE REST OF THE FAMILY A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER BY POST & THEY TOOK LESS THAN 2 WEEKS.

IF YOU'RE JUST RENEWING YOU DON'T NEED TO SEND ANY CERTIFICATES ETC.

I'LL COME CLEAN & ADMIT THAT I ALWAYS LIE !!!!!! ABOUT TRAVEL DATES . & PUT IN EARLIER DATES.

I also just sorted out some passports as I had to make a change on mine and, because of that, get the children their own passports as they were previoulsy on mine.

NOTE: The new form does not ask your travel dates anymore and they've also removed the 2 weeks return guarantee via the Post Office (and World Choice travel agents or whatever they are called.)

However, we did send the forms via the PO on a Tuesday and the passports arrived the following Wednesday. So, not bad. I'd do it soon if you go that route before they start getting busy with the Spring and Summer hols crowds.
