Is there any down side to having a one way flight on Westjet from Halifax to Orlando and having the return flight on AirCanada (Orlando - Halifax) ? Planning to book them separately on each of their websites. The return times on AC are better for me than on Westjet. Usually just book return flights so I don't know if there's any cons of doing the two one ways.

Not really, I just did it myself for September, and for the same reasons. Load the apps from both airlines on your phone and make sure you get notifications from both and you should be good to go. Even if you book a return flight with most airlines you are effectively booking two one-way flights anyway. Have a great trip!

I have also done it a few times - the only downside I can think of is that I believe I had to pay in US $ for the flight originating in Orlando.

Just this. When checking online see if return is in us$ or can$. Then call the airline and find out the Can$ amount and if the price works, enjoy.

Another downside, which hopefully would never be an issue...

IF you have to cancel or change your flights, you will be paying cancel/change fees for each direction instead of one fee for both together. Also, one airline may have better cancel/change terms and lower fees than the other. It can get quite expensive. Like I said, hopefully never an issue, but make sure you research and add those factors into your consideration.

Good point, especially if you need to cancel both flights. That said, I think that the change fee is per direction with most airlines. I could be wrong on that though, so definitely something to check.

I had to cancel a trip last March Break and I had booked round trip with WJ. If I had booked the trips separately I would have had to pay cancellation fees both ways. I often do that so it was just a lucky fluke.

Just make sure you park somewhere convenient to both terminals as AC flies from Terminal 1 at Pearson and Westjet is in Terminal 2.

We're flying from Halifax non stop to Orlando on Westjet and flying through Montreal on AC on the way back.Only parking in Halifax.
