I have a question maybe you all can answer. My coworker is going to disney in a year and was wondering about a pass she has that still has 1 day left on it. She bought it in 1983 and it was called the 'super dooper pass'. She wants to know first, can she use her last one left? And if so, can she use it at MGM/MK/Epcot? Or just Typhoon lagoon and pleasure island? She really can't remember at all, her travel agent told her just typhone lagoon and PI but that doesn't make sense to me.

Also she wants to know, since she's got one for her kids, is it prettymuch useless now that her kids aren't 'kids' anymore? Thanks for any info!

Not sure what a super dooper pass was but if she is right about the year being 1983 the only parks open at that time were MK and EPCOT. Typhoon Lagoon and PI were not there yet so my guess is the pass would be good as a one day (maybe park hopper) ticket for theme parks.

The good news is that you can still get the remaining day(s) out of your super dooper pass and your kid can still get the remaining day(s) out of his at no extra charge.

It is necessary to go to Guest Relations and have the passes re-issued as magnetic stripe passes. They will be good at MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom also, but probably not good at water parks except as a pixie dust downgrade special. I'm not sure whether the Super Dooper allowed hopping between MK and Epcot but if so, the new pass you get in exchange will be a hopper.

The bad news is that, if you are going for several days, the dollars trimmed off of your ticket budget will be only in the single figures. (If you go for one day, it's worth about seventy dollars.)

You might prefer to keep the passes as souvenirs and not use them. It is Disney's policy not to return old passes traded in for admission although it does not hurt to ask and you can definitely take back the pass and "don't do it".

Thanks I'll let her know. I thought 1983 didn't make sense maybe I misheard her telling me the year. Not sure if she'll actually be getting a 'package' because they're going to go many places in florida, disney is just one of them.

I read that link and am more confused now! :rotfl2:

I'll probably have more questions when I talk to her today. Anyway, how does the 'trade in' work, say she's going to a park for one day. She trades in her 'super dooper pass'.. does she have to pay more now? That link said something about them only being the value they were when they were bought so it kind of confused me. I think she'll only be in disney for a few days, out of her whole vacation. Maybe I'll ask her what her specific plans are with tickets, and then come back to the boards to find out of it is worth it to use the ticket.

I've only ever done packages (ie: this september on the free dining plan, w/ 6 day hopper & waterpark and more passes). So I'm not sure how the exchanging of old passes works. Thanks for your info though.

Just bumping this and also adding: She said she got the passes in 1993, not 83. Also her travel agent said she COULD use the passes at MK, Epcot, Etc. but she thought for some reason she could only use them at Typhoon lagoon or Pleasure island.

She can trade those tickets in for a one day pass (since they only have one day left on them), a $70 value . They have to be traded because of the different technology in the ticket machines now.

If she wants a multi day pass she could also exchange those 1 day passes in *towards* the purchase of the new passes but this would really be a watse of those tickets becuase they would only give her the value of what she paid in 93. So for easy math let's say the old super duper pass is worth $20 (remember that old commercial? Youjust won $20! what are you going to do? I'm going to Disney!) OK so for easy math the Super Dooper w/ 1 day left is $20. The multi day ticket she wants is (again easy math) $150. By exchanging the super duper in she would only pay $130 for each new ticket.

So if she's going for one day it's a great deal to use them. If she's going for more than one day.......

Oh and her kids can still use the tickets, Disney doesn't fault them for growing up but they will have to be exchanged for the new ticket media.

Found these articles about the Super Duper tickets - they were park hopping.
