I just booked at Ohana's for our upcoming WDW Poly visit for dinner & I have a question about the food for picky eaters. Hubby LOVES meat so the meats on the skewers should be good to fill him up, but my question is what kinds of meat so they put anything on the meats...I saw on a video about the different dipping sauces but wondered if the meat was just grilled plain with seasoning. Me and daughter will be ok......just wanted to make sure hubby and son would be good to go with the meat and all. Thanks so much ;)

All the meats are lightly seasoned, but they aren't overpowering. Its not a spicy seasoning, so I would assume your family would be ok. I haven't tried all the dipping sauces, but the peanut one is quite good.
I have 3 boys that are all quite picky (and I am somewhat too) and they ALL like eating at Ohana. Its a must-do for us every trip!
The noodles and wings are also a hit with my family. And of course the bread pudding...what could be better?! :cool1:

I don't know that I would go so far as to say the meats aren't spicy....I like spicy. The hotter the better, and I've never noticed so much as a hint of spiciness on the meats at 'Ohana, (the shrimp do actually have a little bit of a kick to them though, once again, nothing that I mind) but my grandmother won't eat there because she says its too spicy:confused3 Also, the last time I was there in October, they had definitely added some kind of a glaze to the pork. I'm not totally sure what it was...some kind of sweet bbq possibly...but the pork used to be my favorite, and I only ate two bites of it in October. The chicken and steak are definitely just plain, seasoned, skewered meats though.

When you sit down if your kids want something off of a regular kids menu - they can do that for you. You have to tell your waiter as soon as they come to your table. It will take 10+ minutes for them to make it. Last time my daughter (age 4) got chicken fingers instead for the kids menu. You have to ask though...

Hope that helps.

Yes, ask!!!

I had no idea last year we could have let the kids have chicken fingers instead. Both of our kids probably would have been happier, and then so would have hubby & I.

The meats are most definitely seasoned. I think some people use the terms strong seasoning and spicy interchangeably. I don't recall any spicy meats but I definitely remember flavourful seasoning. My kids weren't fond of the seasonings on the meats though they did like the sticky seasoning on the shrimp (my kids like completely unseasoned food; drives me nuts since I love to cook with bold seasonings so they have to just deal with it at home). One of my kids normally doesn't eat much shrimp but she ate more than her fare share at 'Ohana.

Generally, most people enjoy at least one other of the side dishes whether it's the noodles, pot stickers, wings, salad or veggies. They're all so tasty!!

Not to hijack the thread, but what about people with nut allergies?? Could they stiill enjoy Ohana?

'Ohana is GREAT with allergies. My kids have long lists of allergies and love 'Ohana. Their peanut allergy is mild and is only ingestion so we've never had any problems here. The chef prepares their food separately and serves wonderful platters for them.

One thing you need to consider though is that they serve a peanut sauce. Just how sensitive is the person with the allergies? Remember that there are activities that get kids up and moving about the restaurant. Will residue on little fingers touching things around the restaurant pose a risk? The food will absolutely be safe; you just need to consider the environment. You can ask to have the peanut sauce not brought to the table at all for added safety. I can't think of tree nut issues.

Thanks for this tip. My 4 yo doesn't eat meat except breaded chicken and bacon :confused3 so I was wondering what we'd do with him as I don't think he'd eat the noodles or dumplings either, maybe the salad, probably pineapple but that's not much of a meal! He's just really picky, now that I know this, I'll be sure to tell the waiter right away that he'd rather have a kids meal. He'll eat chicken fingers or grilled cheese.

This is a GREAT option, but do make sure to ask as soon as you sit down so they can get the order in. We waited over 30 minutes for chicken stripes and fries (but we did get enough to feed an entire family!) so we were already finished with our meal when my son got his meal.
