Question about Nikon 35mm AF-S DX 35mm F/1.8G Lens

I'm thinking about buying the Nikon AF-S DX 35mm F/1.8G Lens for my D5200 to take to DW in 16 days. To get a feel for how shots with this lens would be framed, would I take shots with my 18-55mm kit lens set to 35mm?

Thank you. I was going to buy it for all my low light situations while I'm there as an early birthday present from my wife. The other lens I'm planning on taking is my Sigma 18-250mm F3.5- 6.3.

Agree with Havoc. Just wanted to say that I've got the same lens and really enjoy controlling the DoF with the 35. That's not something you can quite visualize with the 18-55 set at 35.

I have these lenses. A 18-55mm kit lens set at 35mm will give you the same angle of view as the 35mm f/1.8.

That said, the kit zoom lens set at at 35mm has a f/5.0 aperture. The 35mm f/1.8 is a full three stops faster -- ideal for low light conditions and controlling depth of field (as mentioned above).
