This question is based on the TSA announcement about new laptop screening procedures:

https://www.tsa.gov/news/releases/2...-baseline-stronger-domestic-security-measures

"As new procedures are phased in, TSA officers will begin to ask travelers to remove electronics larger than a cell phone from their carry-on bags and place them in a bin with nothing on top or below, similar to how laptops have been screened for years. This simple step helps TSA officers obtain a clearer X-ray image."

For years, I have used a laptop case that opens 180 degrees that totally exposes the laptop. I would just open the case and let it run through. Does anyone know if that will still be allowed? I don't want to slow the lines down during the busy holiday season. Thanks

In my experience, procedures will vary based on the airport and even the TSA agent involved. For example, on one recent trip, I was told that I didn't need to remove external hard drives from my laptop bag. A few days later at a different airport, the TSA agent give me tons of attitude because I didn't remove the same external hard drives during screening.

That said, I do agree with Kaytie. I do think that you will need to remove the laptop completely from the case.
