Question about making reservations

I'm about to buy a resale at SSV and needed to understand one piece of the process of making reservations.

Let's say we have a December use year and that we want to go to Disney for Christmas week 2009. Also assume that we'll need 600 pts for our reservation and that we bought a 200 pt per year contract. So we'll get 200 pts in Dec '08 - which we can carry forward to '09; 200 pts in Dec 09; and we could borrow our Dec '10 pts to use at xmas '09 for a total of 600 pts. The problem is that we won't have 400 of those 600 pts available until Dec 1 '09 and we obviously won't be able to get a reservation 3 weeks before christmas. So with all that background here is the question: Can you make a reservation based on points that you will have at the time you use the reservation or do you have to have the necessary points "in hand" when you make your reservation?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

p.s. this is my first post here so cut me some slack if this has been asked 100 times - the search function didn't seem to work.

You just have to have the points at the start of the reservation. So if you are going in Dec 09, bank Dec 08, use Dec 09 and borrow Dec 10. Just let member services know that in Jan 09 when you book that Dec 09 reservation.

The part that confuses new members is they imagine that the points are "deposited" when the use year starts. Kind of like your paycheck with direct deposit into your bank account. That is not the case with DVC. Your points for all use years are already in your account. For example, if I look at my account online right now, it shows points up through my April 2011 use year. There's no waiting for a "deposit".
