Question about making an offer

I've seen some mention about people making offers and resale contracts. Where do you do this? I've mainly looked at the Timeshare Store. Are you able to make an offer there or is there somewhere else to look? I'm just learning about DVC, but didn't realize price could be negotiable. Are there certain resorts that offers are more likely to be accepted? Just curious...thanks!!

If you are purchasing on the resale market you are buying from a private party, not from Disney (Disney doesn't negotiate). The seller puts their DVC contract on the market through a broker and specifies how much they want for it. Buyers can make an offer below that price and sellers can make counter offers until both sides come to some agreement on the price for the contract plus other things like who pays closing costs and who pays the current year's dues.

There are a few reputable brokers out there. The Timeshare Store is the only one I've used. They are a DISboards sponsor and are very reputable. If you find a contract you like on their website, you can contact them and make an offer. They will present your offer to the seller who will then accept it or reject it or make a counter offer.

You should also take a look at the ROFR thread here on the DIS where those purchasing resales report what they paid for their contracts so it will give you some idea of the the going rate for the different resorts. It's a huge thread so here is a link to the current last page of that thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2661661&page=150 Start there and work your way backwards through the thread until you find a post containing the big list of contract details.
