Question about Magic Bands, kind of complicated

First I should say DH & I are staying at POR for 2 nights, then at Melia Orlando Suites for 5 nights with our son & his family(7 of us), lastly DH & I are staying one night at Yacht Club to end our vacationto end on a relaxing note.
My question is I was prompted on MDE to customized 2 magicbands for the POR stay, then again 2 more for the Yacht Club Stay.

We won't be going to the parks on the Yacht Club Stay.
Can't I use the first 2 magicbands for the whole stay?
If I put my tickets on there, we will be staying offsite for 4 of the park days that will be on the Magicband is that allowed? Will my son & his family get a magicband too even though they are staying at Melia? or can we give them ours? The last trip to WDW was 2004, so MB's are so new to me. I read the whole post on them, but still confused.
Thanks for any clarification or advice you can give me on these.

Yes, you can refuse the second set of Magic Bands if you don’t want them. Or, you can get different colors if you would like. Whatever you decide they will work for your tickets, fast passes, room charges (for your onsite portions of your trip), and room key. Just be sure they are linked to your MDE account.

Your sons family will not get them, they would need to buy them separately. I personally don’t think they are necessary for staying off site. They may not use yours as they are tied to you when you first enter a park.

If your family at Melia has old bands of their own, they can use those for tickets and FP, but so far as I am aware you cannot reassign bands to another person.

so the 4 days we will bestaying at the Melia our tickets won't work on the Magicband? Should I not link them? We will only be using one day of a 4 day hopper while we are at POR. The other 4 days staying offsite.

They will still work.

Just so you're clear: there is nothing really "on" the magic band. It is all "in" your my Disney experience account. The magic band just relays the info from your MDE account to readers at the ticket admission tap points, the fast pass locations, your room door etc. So any magic bands you have that are linked to your MDE account & are active will all do the same thing. So you can have more than 1 active MB & use them interchangeably.

Guests who are staying at a Disney resort get MBs included with their room. Your son can buy magic bands & link them to his MDE account if he has one. Then he can use the MB for entry & fastpasses if he wants to.

Adding: your MB can still be used for your admissions & fastpasses when you move offsite. Won't be able to use it for charging privileges of course.

You can customize both set or just the first one and decline the second set if you'd like but personally I'd just get both sets.
