Question about lines...how bad is waiting, really?

So I know that with my kids, I would loathe the idea of waiting in a standby line for any serious amount of time (over 25 minutes). But with just my DH and I going for a weekend in May (yes, I know SWW and Memorial day will make crowds worse but it is what it is) I wonder how horrible it really is to wait in a line thats 60 minutes long...is it torturous? Or would two adults find it not all that bad? We usually go the last week of January each year with the kids, so all of this is like a brand new adventure. Hotter temps, larger crowds, no kids in tow....I keep thinking of things that will be different and start to panic thinking that it's going to be even worse than what I imagine. In addition, I know that we're likely to hit a few headliners in each park and then just try and take it all in. Maybe a few shows, some snacks, and a good bit of time devoted to enjoying the 'cold beverages' of the World Showcase ;) Anyone have any horror stories to share? lol.

Really depends on which ride you are waiting for.. If it is outside it wont be to much fun..

I hate waiting and will typically not get in a line if I think it'll be more than 15 minutes (sometimes the sign will say 20 or 25 but I'll have a hunch that it's quicker .... And it often is). Sometimes I'll get stuck because the line will be longer than expected .... Or, like today, I'll intentionally wait for something because it's a one off .... Waited almost an hour so my DD could meet Baymax / but it was inside and we were sitting for most of it so it wasn't too bad.

We've done it many times. If you expect lines like that, bring something to keep you occupied and it makes waiting easier. Lines change during the day. If something seems too long, go do something else and try back later. And remember, Disney tends to inflate the wait time on the wait board, it's hardly ever as long as it says.

Depends on the line. I think Soarin' and Town Square Mickey are a couple of the worst -- so boring. Meanwhile Haunted Mansion or Everest are not so bad. I can't stand to wait longer than 30 minutes in any line though.

If it's something you really want, then the wait is not so bad. Even my young son (now 7) has never had an issue with waiting in a 60 and sometimes more line for a favourite attractions or activity at WDW or anywhere really. But then I've always tried to teach him to be patient and if I'm honest, he's more patient than I am. The key with little kids, is not to get antsy yourself because they feed off of that.

With 2 adults, it should be no issue at all, spend the time talking to each other, planning your next ride, talking about a meal you have just had. Life is so rushed all the time, it's kinda nice to just have an hour of nothing where you can actually speak to your loved ones.

We usually manage things so well on our annual off season trip that we rarely wait even 30 minutes for a ride, so that's what got me thinking about longer waits. I know we'll make RD at least one day but possibly not both. I just wish there was a crystal ball to see what I was walking into that weekend! lol. Even a crowded hot disney day is better than being at home!

I don't mind waiting especially if the queue is shaded or air conditioned (even better). I find though that my feet hurt more if I'm standing still than if I'm walking so I don't like waiting for more than 45 minutes on anything. It really comes down to what works for you. I like people watching and striking up conversations with people in line and I find it really goes by very fast.

I do look forward to having some couples time with the hubs. We rarely get it anyway, and its even more special in a place like Disney :) I need to quit worrying and just go with the flow!

I've done up to an hour. It always goes faster than you think. To me it's not that bad. I could wait a long time and it wouldn't bug me. I don't get impatient or bored. The only thing I hate is how it's a big waste of the portion of such a short week. Lol.

I wouldn't do over an hour unless it was a favorite attraction but I think you'll be fine. You'll have each other to talk to and not worrying about keeping kids entertained would make it that much easier IMO.

The only queue we waited in when there last July was SDMT. DW, DS and I waited an hour and it was fine. It was dusk, so the heat was not tortuous. I can see where have little kids would make such a wait more difficult though

I have a feeling a trip without kids, no matter how crowded or hot, will still be nearly stress free ;) I love taking them but am so excited to see it for myself and be able to take my camera and shoot to my hearts content...nobody whining its too hot, we need another ride, etc. Well other than me lol

DH and I play games in line...stuff like:

Movie/TV Game: You go back and forth naming a celebrity, a movie they're in and then another celebrity also in that movie.
Ex: I say Will Smith, DH says Men In Black, I say Tommy Lee, DH says No Country for Old Men, I say Javier Bardem, etc...

Celebrity Name Game: This one's a little confusing. You name a celebrity (first and last name) and then the other person has to name a new celebrity who's first name begins with the first letter of the previous celeb's last name.
Ex: I say Tom Cruise, DH says Chris Brown, I say Bobby Brown
**When you have a double letter like BB or MM (Mickey Mouse!) the order reverses...this works best when playing with more than 2 people.

For 2 adults, not that bad at all. Is waiting in general fun? Not typically. But I wouldn't describe it as "bad". You could use the time for conversation.

There is an iPhone app which is a version of headbandz that you can play. Lots of folks were playing on the TSMM line when we went in February. Our family ended up downloading it and the kids had fun playing it.

It's pretty hard on my feet, that's the worst part. Waited 90 minutes for Toy Story once. The queue moved frequently enough that we couldn't sit on the ground even. It was pretty awful, even with an interesting queue that's air conditioned. People cutting to supposedly catch up with others in their party was rampant and annoying, especially since so many people doing it.

I can tolerate up to about 30 minutes, anymore than that I'll skip it.

Waiting for Forbidden Journey and Gringotts at Universal wasn't so bad. The queues are really interesting. Plus, if you are drinking a tasty beverage or eating a snack, the time seems to fly. They don't seem to mind food and drink in the lines at Universal. They even have carts in the Gringotts and Hogwarts Express lines that sell drinks, including beer and cider, and snacks.

At WDW, it doesn't seem to be as acceptable. It would definitely help with the waiting. Next time I have to wait a long time for Soarin', I'm heading to Sunshine Seasons first to get a snack.

I live in Ohio and at our amusement parks (Kings Island and Cedar Point) it's not unusual to wait 1 or 2 hours, sometimes longer, for rides. So I guess I am used to it. Its not very pleasant, especially in the heat. I have no Disney experience yet, but I imagine if you are doing rides with shorter waits and other things in between it won't be so bad. Plus just some quality time with the hubs could be fun! :)

_I_ won't wait over 30 minutes. I often travel solo and I bring a BOOK. Yes, I know, an oddity--- an object with paper and print. It amuses me and doesn't run low on batteries, nor does it make any noise to disturb anyone else waiting in line.
