Question about laundry services/ironing clothes

We are sailing in one week on the Fantasy and I'm packing today. As I am ironing my husbands shirts and packing them, I know they will come out of the suitcases a wrinkled mess in one week. We are driving and staying in Florida this week.

I know about the prices for the laundry services and pressing clothing. But my question is this. Once we board the ship and have access to our rooms, is there a way to send out his shirts to be pressed? I am most concerned about formal night being the next day and having a nice crisp shirt for him to wear. So can I send it out once we unpack and have it ready the next day?

If not I guess I can always go to the laundry room and do it myself but honestly I didn't want to start my "chores" as soon as I board. I have to unpack for the five of us and want to have fun!

Thanks for any help as I'm feeling very overwhelmed packing right now!

There is a pressing service its half the price of the normal laundry service and you speak to your stateroom host for it.

TBH Everyone there is on a cruise everyone will have packed and everyone will have some creases, often if you hang them up and if your in the Caribbean area, flick water on them the creases fall out.

YMMV but doing laundry on my cruise was not the wisest choice. It made me cranky, and I think it is well worth the price to off load (ha) the chore.

Thank you for this! But can it be done once we board for return the next day? Or do I leave it out at night? Just not sure how the timing works. Is there a specific time for pick up?

I have wrinkle release spray and plan to use it. It's just that these clothes will be in a suitcase for one week and I know some items will look pretty wrinkled. I am the worlds worst packer!

Did you see the form DF attached?

Fill out the form for press only. Regular service gets it returned by 5:30pm the next day. Get into the room, get the stuff ready, call your stateroom host and tell them what you need, and they'll pick it up and drop it off the following day. It's an excellent service for a good price; we do it every cruise for DH's shirts!

Yes and you just answered what I really needed :)

Now I know to call the stateroom host and get a pick up. The form only stated to call guest services for express. Nothing about regular services. I wasn't sure if I should leave it out that night or if pick up was even available the first day (due to all the craziness of everyone getting settled, luggage delivery etc. )

Thank you all for the answers and hints :)

Back next day.

I have a bunch of dresses I want pressed... But they are more like casual short dresses for dinner (sun dresses or cotton dresses). I wonder if I would have to pay 50% of the evening gown rate or if there is a better rate?
Anyone pressed casual dresses?

Those are the rates they charge on best fit to description.

There are irons in each laundry if you wish to use them as an alternative.

Cheribelle, I agree with the great advice given here. I virtually always use DCL's laundry/dry cleaning services each cruise and have always been quite happy with both results and prices (though it's almost always for DH's stuff, he packs his own luggage)

If you think your DH's shirts will be wrinkled anyway, I sure wouldn't iron them beforehand! :crazy2: Squirk's video posts are terrific helpers. I LOATHE ironing so I have become a master at packing my clothing in such a way that ironing is almost never needed. Even my linen blouses! It takes extra time while folding and packing but for me the payoff of not having to worry about it on my long-awaited vacation is well worth it! How do I do it? I do something similar to the Hong Kong tailor in Squirk's shirt video. But wait, there's more……

1) I buy those 3 gallon zip-loc bags and/or packing cubes
2) I make sure all my clothes are ready to put on and go (clean and unwrinkled)
3) I clear off a good clean, smooth folding surface. For me it's usually my bed but your dining room table would work well if dust-free.
4)I button all the buttons on my shirts (if they have 'em!)
5)Lay the shirt face down and smooth with your hands to get all wrinkling out. Sometimes to get it straight I will hold the shirt evenly by the shoulders and give it a "pop" to allow the fabric to lay correctly.
6) An extra step I take the guy in the shirt video does not do is to run my fingers inside each fold I make to ensure that fold is very smooth. I carefully smooth the clothing at each fold, again taking care to make sure each fold and corner of the folds is not crumpled by running my fingers inside the fold as I do it.
7) Turn the shirt right side up when you're finished and set it aside while you continue with your shirts/blouses. When I get a nice stack, I will carefully slide the stack of shirts into a 3 gallon ziploc. One I am sure they are all smooth, uncrumpled, I will close the ziploc just a little, then I SIT ON IT! LOL!! Once I sit on it I complete the closing of the ziploc. This works like a compression bag and will save room in your luggage as well as keeping those carefully folded clothes from rummaging around during your travels! If it won't stay flat and compressed, you have a pinhole in the bag and need to get a new one. I keep the non-airtight ones to put shoes or dirty laundry into for the trip.
8)I know this sounds complex at first, but once you get the hang of smoothing out every crease or wrinkle, it makes for unpacking that will make you smile!! :cutie:

If I am using compression cubes to pack, I take extra care to make sure the cube is quite full before zipping, then compression zipping so that the clothes stay still and don't move around. It's the jostling around that can take even carefully folded clothes and get them all wrinkled!

This method has worked beautifully for me for years and I am always thrilled if I didn't' wear something that when I repack it and get home, I don't have to send it out (again!) to the cleaners! Saves me some $$$ that I can spend elsewhere! :dogdance:

Just make sure you receive a laundry bag back in your room after you send the first one out to the laundry. I sent DH's dress shirt out the first night on our cruise to be pressed. Never got another bag in our stateroom, but never thought anything about it. Noticed a charge on my credit card a few weeks after we got back. Called DCL and they said I had taken the laundry bag and I was charged $30 for it. I told them I sent it out to the laundry and it was never replaced and for them to check my stateroom charges to prove I had sent something to the laundry. They eventually refunded me the money, but it took 1 1/2 months to get straightened out.

If your dresses can stand a bit of heat, get a washcloth wet, go to the dryers with your dresses and throw them and the wet washcloth in for about 20 minutes. Instant wrinkle release, also, for added freshness, throw in a dryer sheet.

I also take a photo of anything to be returned just before we leave as proof.

I put DH's shirts in the laundry bag found in the closet, fill out the press only form and hang the bag
on our fish extender before we go to the safety drill. They know you need the shirts for the next night so they try to have them back before 4PM on formal nights. We have done this several times. I also request light starch with pressing only and they come out fine. Cost is charged to your KTTW card account.

I do the same exact thing and for years like you too. I rather be ironing at home after or before work for my vacation than using precious vacation time to do so and if I add up the hours it takes to iron all our things I would most certainly cry if I had to do it on vacation.

I loathe wrinkles and never have any problems with silk blouses or linen pants.

I use to use the zip locks when he kids were younger but now a fan of the packing cubes and they still work wonderfully.

Hi Js! So good to know I'm not the only one that is an ultra meticulous packer! :flower3: I'm results oriented so I feel the payoff is well worth it! :teeth:

Does anyone know if they literally "iron" the clothes or if they perhaps use garment steamers?
