Question about Julia Child from the movie...some spoilers...

I watched Julie and Julia yesterday and loved it. I loved the interpretation of Julia Child, but I wonder what she was really like in real life. I was shocked when they said she didn't like the blog and I was disappointed that the two never met in real life. The Julia portrayed by Meryl Streep would have loved the blog. Any thoughts?

I also take it from the movie that she wasn't able to have children...

I never read Julie's blog so I don't know what the content was like, but I can compare Julia to my 89yo MIL. My MIL wouldn't begin to understand blogging, email, bulletin boards or Facebook. She "doesn't like" things she doesn't already know about. So I have to wonder if Julia Child might also not understand blogging, the internet,etc.

Or maybe the blogger used bad language or gave out TMI about her personal life. I don't know.

I had the same thoughts when I watched the movie.

I knew it was based on a true story but I wanted to change the ending & have those 2 meet. I guess you can't when it's not fictional.

Anyway -- I was reading in another thread here that apparently the blog & book had a lot more foul language in it. If that's the case, I can see that maybe being an issue. The other thing may be with blogging you can air your dirty laundry in public more than would have been acceptable way back when.

My DD just said I'm overly critical because although I liked the movie, I felt like I must have been missing something for Julia to not like the blog because with the persona displayed on screen -- I think she would have loved it. Although, it did make me want to read the book just to see what I was missing.

I did like the movie though. I just over anaylize things.

It has now made me want to read the story of Julia Child's life. I need to go search and find some.
