Question about "holding" points

As you already know I had to cancel my trip due to Snowmageddon. I asked a DVM if I could use those points towards my August trip which they said no. My question is, I know I have make a new reservation. Could it be added on to coincide to the beginning of my trip? For instance, if I am going from the 29th of August to Sept 5th, can I make a new reservation for August 21st to the 28th at the same location using those holding points?

Holding points can only be reserved 60 days in advance. So 60 days before your arrival date, you can call and see if you can use the holding account points. There's no way to reserve them now for August.

I should have said that I knew about the 60 days in advance but I was wondering about the ability to try to "latch" a few days to my existing trip.

Yes but you also could see if there are rooms available at the 60 day mark for the reservation you already have and then you could book the holding points and cancel the existing reservation to be able to use or bank those for a later date.

I have another question regarding the points in the holding file. Sorry for the hijack, Harlemgirl720. If the points in the holding file are points that will expire with the last day of your use year, do those holding file points have to be used before that date? E.g. June Use Year, same situation as the OP. When my points went into holding, they were banked 09 points; wouldn't I have to make my reservation with the holding points be a reservation that ends before May 31, 2010? So if I want the reservation to be May 28 - 31, 2010, I would make this reservation on March 29th, which is exactly 60 days before my check in date. Is that right? I used Julian dates to come up with 60 days before.

You are correct that the points need to be used prior to their expiration - in your case May 31st. March 29th would be 60 days prior to the start of your reservation but I'd probably try calling on Mar 28th just to see if it could be booked then.
