Question about helping friends get started...

I just had a friend come over who wants to put her Disney pictures into an album, but says she would never be able to do the "real" scrapbooking. But, she wanted it to look nicer than a photo album, so I gave her some cardstock, old alpha stacks I never use anymore, photo splits, etc. (she already has a 12 x 12 album). She mentioned that her sister is interested in scrapbooking as well. So, I'm thinking about hosting a party to help her and a few other friends just see what scrapbooking is all about. So, my question is, is Creative Memories the only option for doing something like this? It is how I got started, but I ask because another friend and I had bad experieces with our CMC - she's not actually one any more so I'd have to find a new consultant, which I guess I'd have to do from their site. But, I just didn't know if there was any other options out there, or if CM is the way to go.

I'd like to hear other people's opinions too. My cousin has asked me if she could come over and learn how to scrapbook. I haven't really the faintest on how to even begin.

You have a couple of options other than having a CM show -

1) you can go to a local scrapbook store and check out their classes

2) you can gather a bunch of friends that are scrapbookers so that she can see other scrappers' tool, styles, and techniques

3) or you can strike a happy medium - and find a CMC that does crops with classes

Finding a CMC that you are comfortable is tricky. I would go with a word of mouth recommendation if possible. Find one that is down to earth and believes that CM is only one of the many possibilities in the scrapbooking world - not the only one!!!

If you do decide to host a class - be very specific about your needs - that you have a newbie that wants to do traditional. The last thing that you want is to host a show and have the CMC run through the catalog!!!

Also - a great solution for your friend might be the CM Picfolios - or Quick Albums -they have the scrapbook feel - but not all of the work :)
