Question about Guitar Hero games & controllers

My son received a used set of 2 guitars and GH3 for PS3 from his dad for Christmas. One of the guitars is an actual GH, the other is not. When getting ready to play it this morning, we found the receivers that plug into the actual PS3 are missing. Before we go and buy them, are the older guitars even compatible with the newer GH games? I have looked it up online and can't get a straight answer. TIA

Well I do not have a PS3 however PS2 games are not backwards compatible to the PS3 system.

So unless the GH, is a GH3, my guess is that it will not work. Not sure though, but that is my stab at it.

Take it to a GameStop, they will help you.
