Hello. I have a 7 month old Bichon and have bathed/groomed her myself at home up until now. But I need the proper equiptment to trim her hair as I have been usings scissors only and it is too time consuming and hard to do! A

Can anyone give me any information about what are the best scissors/clippers and what size comb attachment I would need for a dog this size?

thanks in advance :thumbsup2

Moving to the Community Board. Any groomers around that can give some input?

My pups don't need to be clipped but DSis's Newfies get buzzed a couple of times every summer. She tried to do it herself and burned out the clippers. And poor Toby looked like.... well let's just say that if dogs could laugh Jack would have been rolling on the floor over the way his brother looked! The right tools make all the difference!

This is a great site for grooming supplies:

No experience with Bichons, but we did teach ourselves how to groom our Scotties. We started doing this ourselves when we adopted a fearful rescue. We sent emails to several breed specific rescue groups and explained our situation and were given so much helpful advice. One person even took time to send us a list of needed grooming blades, and other supplies. Scotties are very different from your dog, but you may be able to check with Bichon clubs and rescue groups that could help direct you to the needed sources.

I will say that we invested in professional quality supplies since we will always have Scotties. They were expensive, but we have saved so much money in the long run and we do get compliments on our dog's haircuts. We went with Andis clippers, but Oster makes great ones as well.

Oh, and a link for bichon grooming to help you with your research:

We had a Bichon a little while back and we had to take her to get groomed every two months or so because she would get really nappy despite our constant grooming, and since she has white fur, she got really dirty, despite bathing her every 2 weeks.

Thanks for the tips! I found a groomer who will allow me to stay while she is worked on so I am much more comfortable with that. At least for the first time. And I will just continue to bathe her and scissor trim as needed in between. I think I will get a better pair of scissors- maybe profesional ones like on the website given. And just get some help from the professionals as needed!
Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated :goodvibes
