Question about Gold pass AP and new system

I'm making a reservation for April 20-25 at Riviera with our points rolled over from 2019 into 2020 (Sept. use year). At that point my Platinum AP will be expired (even with the extension - it will expire in October). And since we are now DVC, we would like to buy the Gold AP through DVC anyways - so I was just going to cancel our pass since we won't be able to take advantage of the extension and buy the gold DVC AP. Can I go and buy a DVC gold AP now and apply that to my MDE account? And will that work for me to reserve our park days? Or will it still let me reserve with my pass that is about to expire? I would hold off on all of this but the fact it will open up for everyone soon makes me nervous.

Disney shut down all AP sales on Friday and we do not know when they will resume,

Multiday tickets for 2021 will go on sale around the 24th of June. You could buy that and when you get to the park upgrade it to a gold AP if you want to get your days booked.

Thanks for letting me know! It might make more sense to get a multi-day ticket and then upgrade at the park. And cheaper in the near term.

Once they are on sale again, it will work. My current AP was extended to 8/24/2020. My next trip is November. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a new Gold AP, which of course is not activated yet. I was able to make reservations today for November and April.

You can not make reservations based on the pass that will expire in Oct. But do go ahead and request the refund. Once they open up buying AP's again get your gold AP. Link it to your account and you will have no problem booking your park days.

I have AP's for my family of 5 which are not activated yet, but are linked to each person. Just the fact that they are in my account I am able to make my park reservations and was able to do so (once the system was actually working) for November and April trips.

All personal opinion....

1) Ditch any current AP - of any color. Ask for a partial refund.
2) Buy a NEW, unactivated AP, that starts when you actually show up.

Effect: You have Tickets. From now to 2030. Those tickets START when you can actually show up. "Extensions" are worthless - get the partial refund, when WDW actually DOES this. So far? Zero actual performance. No documented cases of partial AP refunds (please advise if anyone has actually GOTTEN one).

Now - reservation. Yes, Make these, then cancel every time WDW fails. Those tickets? If you did not show up, they were not activated :). Still good :). And you still have Active Tickets :).

We pulled this act. New APs, charged & paid for - we have tickets, valid on first use.
We have an APR 2021 DVC Booking - that can be cancelled if WDW does not perform.
TICKETS remain valid... ""first USE".
And we have reserved every park, for every day, of our APR 2021 vacation. I made sure to page capture the data.

You see, the WDW computer system, being poorly coded, demanded two things...
1) Valid Admission (if I do not show up? NEW GP lives until 2030).
2) Valid Booking (DVC can be cancelled 30 days in advance).

Our plan allows us to react to WDW changing it's mind, over and over.

We have resv for October but purchased our AP's for our trip in March (which was canceled). At that time my DGD did not need an AP as she wasn't 3 yet. She will need a ticket for October. We were able to book the parks we wanted for us 3 adults. I can't imagine that she's going to be shut out but at the same time I am pretty nervous since it seems like there is no shortage of crazy lately. What are your thoughts? We tried to call all day but it went straight to busy. Thanks

Hopefully, we will hear pretty soon about the 2020 tickets. I have a good feeling that later this summer will be more like sooner instead.

Keep an eye out in the next few weeks!

My kids have multi day tickets for an august trip. I would like to upgrade those to Gold APs to use for a trip in early 2021. Does anyone know whether I have to wait till I get to the parks in August to do so, or can the AP dept do it now, so I can get my park pass reservations in place sooner rather than later?

I'm in the same boat as some of you. I had a trip booked for Easter 2020 that was canceled due to Covid. My wife, two kids and I had AP's, while my in-laws had 5 day passes. The 5 Day passes were extended through Sep of 2021 while the AP's were extended through Feb 2021. I have rebooked the trip for the week of easter 2021 and was only able to make park reservations for my in-laws but not for my immediate family.

I had originally purchased gold AP's during a Oct of 2019 trip. Once we decided to go during the week of easter of 2020 I upgraded to Platinum AP's in Feb of 2020. Well once Covid happened I called the AP VIP number and requested they downgrade my pass to back to gold and refund the difference which they surprisingly did. I received my money within two weeks. During the same call I asked about the partial refund for the AP, the cast member explained that they would take the price of the Gold AP and deduct the price of the tickets for the number of days used, In our case three days. I should have taken her offer and requested the refund then but waited until about a month ago to do so. I have yet to receive any Partial refund and am not sure if the info I was given then still applies.
