Question about going from Split Stay to Single Resort

Hello!

I have a question that I am hoping you more knowledgable DISers can help me with.

We are BCV owners and recently added on points at BLT. Because of this, I had to book our upcoming Thanksgiving trip at the 2 resorts to take advantage of the 11 month booking window. Our 7 month window is quickly approaching and hubby would really prefer to stay at just one resort for the entire trip.

Any advice/ideas of the best way to go about this when I call MS?

We have never had to waitlist because we are usually fairly flexible with our dates and/or resorts. If we need to waitlist to get the 10 days at one resort, how does that work? Do we need to have enough available points to book the waitlist in case it comes through, or do they just cancel the current reservation and then use those points?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. :goodvibes

It is "safer" to have enough points to book the entire stay and then cancel the extra part, but if you can't do that without borrowing, then just have them cancel the part that you have but don't want and then book what you want.

I am a person who lost both reservations when I tried to change one time. I never did get exactly what I wanted back, but MS did get me something that was satisfactory. It was two days out before we left. The lost reservation happened 3 months out, so for 3 months I was stuck with something I really didn't want.

MS told me that, yes it was awful what happened to me, and that they were working on something that would not let that happen, but it still does. These things are RARE, but if it's a reservation that I really have to have, I do try to hold the two and not just cancel then book.

FYI what happened, happened 3 years ago.

If you try to change at 7 months and can't get all the days that you want at the one resort, just put in the wait list for the days you want.

When they fill the wait list, they will cancel out the old and put in the new. You do not need to have points for both in these cases.

What I would do is ask them to give you an idea of the inventory available before deciding which one to switch. I would think that BLT will be easier to get since it is bigger than BCV, but than again, they are only 50% declared, so maybe not.

I hope that you get exactly what you want!!!

I always worry about losing my reservation when trying to change a resort at 7 months. I have called at the 7 month mark and made the reservation I wanted with other points and then just canceled the first reservation. I guess that only works if you have extra points to use.

We had that happen last year when trying to secure a BLT reservation. They told me ahead of time that they had to cancel BWV and I could lose it. She also said there were still 4 rooms in inventory (not counting the one I would be canceling) so even if the BLT room was gone by the time she tried, I should have no problem getting my room back.

Well, I lost both! She was able to get me something at AKV, and I wait listed BWV back. I did eventually get it, but it was scary.

I was also told that sometimes, they can do the new one without losing the old room and sometimes they can't.

When we switched from BLT to BCV this summer, I asked if I could end up losing my initial reservations and she told me no, there was no chance so we switched.

I am new to DVC and I am unclear about something that kind of pertains to this. When you purchase points for another resort, and you book split stays, and then call in within the 7 mo window for one resort, do you have to cancel existing ressie before you book new one or will they just move your points over to the new ressie?

I did some research on here and ended up answering my own question! LOVE it here....it feeds my adiction AND I am learning alot! :cool1:
