Question about expired annual passes

Both our family's annual passes and our Disney's Dinning Experience cards are expiring at the end of this month.

We don't plan on renewing our Annual Passes at this time, but will purchase them anew (hopefully with a DVC discount) prior to our next vacation. We haven't planed our next vacation yet, it might be one or two years away.

This was the first year we have had annual passes. I know that they can't be used after they expire, but is there Any reason to keep them for Informational purposes.

If there are no reasons to keep them, I will "very sadly" run them through the shredder.

Thanks.

Don't shred them yet. Hold on to them for when you purchase your new passes. Instead of you having to give all of the information contained on them over again to Disney when you buy the new passes, you just give them the old ones, they swipe them and all of the information will be moved to your new AP's. It saves a lot of time by having the old ones. The more AP's you purchase, the more time it saves.

Not sure if there is any reason to keep them but I do. I use a hole punch and put them on a key ring. I keep the Key cards too. The one with the most keys on their ring wins!

Thanks for the suggestions. They were both excellent.

The last time (only time) I purchased our annual passes, I did so online with our DVC discount. That way I had them in hand when we travelled.

With your suggestion of having them scan them, I would guess that it would be done at guest services at the resort or at the park. I hate to wait, and waste park time once we get there.

Can this be done at the Resort, and if so, based on your experience, how long does it take to purchase new annual passes (once they expired). Also is doing so with our DVC discount an issue.

Thanks for all your help.

DVC discounted AP's need to be taken care of at a Guest Services location. Resorts cannot process these AFAIK.

We have ordered vouchers on-line & have purchased outright at GS. As far as which is easier, I don't think it makes a difference. You still have to go to GS to activate the voucher. The only advantage is that you can pay for one at a time if you want by ordering the vouchers instead of plopping down a big chunk at once.

Also with the voucher you can order new DDE cards prior to arrival. Just watch the timing so you have them before you leave home.

I too am a new DVC member ( can ya tell?! :rotfl: ) but I do have a question on the timing... I'll be there 2 months from today (May 10) ...when should I buy my AP AND when should I purchase my DDE?
now, if I'm reading this right, I will order and pay for my AP online but it has to be activated when I get to the park (or DTD)...what is the actual date for expiration purposes - the day I buy or the day I activate?

and the DDE - what is the date for that card - purchase or first use?

thanks a bunch! :wave2:

You Annual Pass date is the date it's activated. As to DDE, it's the purchase date, but they give you 13 months when you first order it to compensate for the delivery time. We ordered our DDE early last September and it's good through the end of this October.

To add to what happy haunt has posted, in order to get the extra month on the DDE card, you must time your order correctly. If you order within the first few days of a month, then your DDE will expire at the end of that month plus one year. If you order after about the 7th of the month, your DDE will be valid until the end of the following month plus one year. When you call to order the DDE, ask what expiration date you will be getting. If you have called a day or two too early to get the extra month, they will tell you what day you should call back.

I'm going in early May also and need to renew my DDE. I plan to call Fri Apr 7th or Mon Apr 10th to order it so that I get a May 31, 2007 expiration date so that I can use the card for my May 2007 trip as well. By the way, the DDE office is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm.
