Question about early check-in and cancellations

I have a trip coming up in 3 weeks. I'd like to do early check in and request my room preference. My room is cancellable up until 5 days to arrival right now. If I do early check in, will it mean I cannot cancel without penalty? Just being paranoid. Thanks.

As long as you cancel 5 or more days prior to arrival, there is no penalty and you will receive a full refund regardless if you did your online check in. The room assigners do not assign your room until about 24 hours prior to arrival!

It's really misnamed. You don't really "check-in". It's more like pre-registering your information. No room is assigned when you do the online check-in, it's assigned at the same time as if you didn't do it. One advantage is you get a text when your room is ready and you don't have to visit the front desk.

LOL! I know, but I had to once and it scarred me for life so i always worry about it now. Cancelling Disney is the WORST. Fingers crossed for no shenanigans.
