I am considering buying in. My question is: Are the night poing values at resorts ocked in for my life? (i.e. If it costs 20 points a night a the Poly now, will it always cost me 20 pts there OR will the amounts needed go up every year?)

Can you buy a membership over the phone or do you HAVE to sign papers in Fla?

The number of points sold at each DVC resort is a fixed number and the point charts are based on that fixed number - thus if DVC wants to change the points needed for a night in any DVC resort, they would need to raise some nights and lower others. In reality, this has happened only once - at OKW in 1996 - when some nights were rasied a few points, others lowered a few points and many saw no change at all. As each new resort has come online DVC has had opportunity to modify the point charts and did that with VB, HH and BWV. VWL and BCV points are basically the same as BWV Preferred view. SSR has a slightly different chart and AKV has a very different chart. To answer your question, yes the points can be modified at DVC resorts.

Points needed at the non-DVC options are re-negotiated each year and they have changed most every year. I would hesitate to buy DVC based on the points needed for any of the non-DVC options, but they can be a nice option once in awhile. Basically, a 1BR at a DVC resort will be much nicer and fewer points than nights at the other resorts. If you want to primarily stay at the Poly, I'd continue paying cash rather than join DVC.

You can call DVC (1-800-800-9100) and ask for the information to be sent to you- as long as DVC is registered to sell in your locale. If you decide to purchase, all documents will be sent via FedEx and you can sign and have them notarized at home for financing - you do not need to be at WDW, although that's a great reason for another trip.

Good luck with your decision! :)

The points needed for a 1 week stay will always & forever be the same. If DVC raises the number of points for a Fri & Sat, they need to lower the points for Mon thru Thurs so that the weeks stay will be the same # of points as before.

That is not quite accurate. As long as the total points needed to reserve a year at the resort do not change, the individual dates may be changed without regard to balancing weekdays/weekends. It is not based on weekly point needs.

Pre-1996, GV's at OKW were 31/77 (weekdays/weekends) in Adventure Season and in 1996 went to the present 36/88. In Choice it was 37/92 and went to 38/91.
In Dream it was 45/112 and went to 45/107, Magic went from 52/130 to 51/123 and Premier went from 68/170 to 66/162.

Wow, that's not the way it was explained to me. So the total points are for the year not per week? Our guide told us that the points will never change & I'm positive he said per week. I guess that changes things just a bit but probably not enough to make a real impact.

Yes and they do adjust the Easter and a few other weeks around some times as well making them the same Points just a different time of the year.

The 1 year thing like Doc explained has to be the same .
