Question about Disney room access

Hi there!

I have a question for y'all!! We are coming all the way from Hawaii in just a few weeks! We have 2 separate rooms (1 for my parents and 1 for our family). We would like my parents to have room access to our room via their magic band. We have a new baby and they have offered to graciously help out. Is this allowed? Can I ask the front desk to grant my parents permission to access our room? If not, is there another way to do this? Should I just ask for a room "card" to access and then give it to them? I don't want to give them my band because I want it to access our FP's, etc.

Thanks for the help! I know I'll get an answer from you DISers!

How about requesting adjoining rooms. We had two rooms on our last trip and asked to be adjoining, which they accommodated. I think you could call the reservations line and discuss what kind of request you can put in so that your parents have access.

I have requested adjoining rooms and while they said they will try to accommodate, it is not guaranteed. I'd rather assume the worst and have a back up plan!

You would have to request 'connecting' rooms, not 'adjoining' rooms. Connecting rooms have an interior door in between them. Adjoining rooms are just in the area of each other. Unfortunately, connecting rooms is a request and can't be guaranteed.

If what you're wanting to request is a door that connects the two rooms, you need to change that request to connecting rooms.

In hotel-speak, "adjoining" means across the hall, diagonal, even around the corner, or next to but with NO door in between.

Either way, it is ONLY a request and will NOT be guaranteed.

But yes. I used to work in a hotel and we would often have people who were in adjoining rooms complaining that they did not get their request. They DID get their request - they just didn't understand what they were requesting.

We have gotten MB for our grandkids even when under 3 years old. We just used that MB to get into their room. Usually we kept the kids in our room, but you never know when you needed more diapers, etc.

I would think you can get one for your baby since baby is listed in the room.

No problem! I understand it’s just a request as I wrote above. That’s why I want a backup plan in case they can’t accommodate. Just called Disney and they said connecting rooms is already requested.....they said when people ask for adjoining rooms it’s the same thing (I asked her to change the wording on the request to connecting because I didn’t trust her lol)

If you don't get connecting rooms they will be able to give your parents key cards for your room.

Good call. The phone CMs may assume you meant connecting but I can guarantee the room assignors would not. To them they are 2 different things.

Very good idea to ask her to change the wording.

The people on the phones may think it's the same thing, but they are not the ones doing the assigning - and many of them don't have specific hotel training. As I said, I used to work in a hotel (not Disney, but we had an in-house travel agency and they did our industry-speak training), and there IS a difference between the terms in the travel industry.
