question about dish recevers (dishnetwork)

Below is a long version of my problem. My question is has anybody had their receiver stop working and did you sign a new contract (and pay) to replace it?

We have had trouble with dishnetwork before, but it was with the dish. This time it is the receiver.

Last night the receiver kept giving an error message about not being able to use the dvr function. It said to reset by unplugging. We tried this repeatedly. Finally got it to work and went to bed.

This morning it started in again. Went through all the stuff from last night again. Finally got it working.

This afternoon it froze. It would not respond at all. Went through reset and got a message that the hard drive was corrupt and everything needed to be deleted. Went ahead and told it ok delete it all.

Went through this a few times. Now the receiver won't even power on.

Dh told me he will take care of it tonight.

Most Dish receivers are leased not owned. Just call them up, they should take care of it for you. Do not sign a new contract unless that is your wish, they might try to persuade you but I know it is not required.

If they play hardball threaten to cancel your service.

agreed...if your receive is leased (and most newer ones are) you shouldn't have to pay to replace it.

IMO, I would guess if you threaten to walk away they'll offer you a replacement at no cost without a new contract.

Update:

Dh got home.

We just ordered an upgrade receiver for just $75. It should be here in 7 to 10 days. After it comes we are to send the old one back.

I can handle that.

Glad to hear that you've got a resolution forthcoming.

Your problem sounds like your hard drive failed.
