Friends of ours (also DVC owners) are staying at the Poly on points next month. I asked them if they were doing the dining plan. They said that DVC wouldn't allow them to because they were not staying at a DVC property during their stay. I thought that this sounded rediculous, since they are using points and they are staying on Disney property. I thought she may have been misinformed, but she said she tried calling more than once and got the same response. Can someone explain this to me?

In order to get the dining plan through DVC, you must be staying at a DVC resort on points or on a cash reservation through MS. If you use your points for the Disney Collection, you cannot get the dining plan. In order to get the dining plan at other resorts, you must pay rack rate (or the AAA rate) and purchase tickets as part of a package.

DVC only negotiated the Dining Plan for members staying at DVC resorts through MS.

As Deb & Bill said, your friends are correct, you can only add the dining plan at DVC resorts if you are staying on points. The other WDW resort reservations are controlled by WDW Travel/CRO and must fall under their guidelines (ie buy a package through them) to get the dining plan. WDW Travel considers point ressies at non-DVC resorts "room only" ressies, just like Annual Pass discount rooms, and they can not add the dining plan.
