I'm sorry if this has already been asked.

My dh heard from others about the dinning plan and how great it is so now he is saying we need to add this. I have read a lot of comments about the new plan and don't feel it is worth the hassle.

Those of you going with the dinning plan or that have already used the dinning plan in 2008 can you tell me the pro's of the plan?

Those of you who opt not to use the plan please explain why not?

Am I right that the tip is already set at an 18% for everyone using the plan even if the service was terrible? or is that only for parties over 6 people? I'm not saying I am a bad tipper but if the service is horrible I would hate to leave an 18% or 20% tip, do I still control that beings I will be with a party of 5?

Anything else I should know before adding the dinning?

thanks:goodvibes

This is for parties of 6 or more, and members of the Disney Dining Experience (not the same program as the Disney Dining Plan).

If your party is less than 6 people you will determine the amount you tip. Parties receiving the autograt and getting horrible service should speak with a manager about reducing the tip.

You should also know that you can only add the dining plan to a room/tickets package. If you have a room-only reservation in which tickets are not included, you won't be able to add it (unless you are a DVC member or renting points from a DVC member).

Thank you for answering my question. We will be getting the room/ticket package with the hopper and water parks and more option, as long as that doesn't effect the dininng?

As long as you have a package with tickets, you're good.

I don't use the plan. I used it a couple of times (through DVC) while tips were still included. It's not worth it for me to use it now. But if you have kids, and they are under 10, and you want to eat a sit down meal each day, it can work out to a pretty good deal.

Plan users seem to like having the meals prepaid, and to know they've got the resources for one snack a day (good excuse to tell the kids they can have one snack). Because the tips are not included, you have to carry some method of paying a tip for your table service meals (cash, credit card, room key linked to credit card) but you can order whatever you want off the menu, except in the few instances where certain menu items are restricted, without regard to the menu price.

I guess cons might be that your table service dining has to be planned. It's not wise to go without table service reservations, especially if you want to eat at peak times or in popular restaurants. Some posters find the children's menus limiting (children under 10 must order from kids' menus where they are available). Some posters say they have credits left over at the end of their stay.
