Question about cell phone needed on cruise

So, I'm becoming resolved that I need to carry my cell phone around at WDW to get discounts (my card is not working....we are at WDW now and have 3 ressies booked in Jan. Afraid if we try to fix card it will mess those up). Will try to fix in Feb before March cruise.

But, my question now is ...will I NEED to carry my phone around the ship? If I memorize whatever activities I'm interested in and the menus for each night (or write them down) can I get by without it? Are there still room cards or do I need phone to get in room? I REALLY don't want to carry it around.

You WILL get a room card - the phone doesn't fit in the slot that turns on the room lights. Mostly I used mine for the menu at dinner. Your server will tell you where dinner is the next night (card no longer has dining rotation on it). Biggest gripe was that we had three cabins booked and once onboard the activities only showed up on the phone for one cabin. Before the cruise you could see everyone's activities in the calendar.

Maybe not ALL over the ship. But I think that day is coming within the next 2-3 years. I can't find it but Iger talked about this a while back. Integration of devices into the 'Disney experience' is going to happen everywhere sooner or later.

Sure, Disney wants to be able to track you. What started with magic bands, now they will use your phone. And you will give permission for them to access your info just like you do with google and yahoo and every app. As soon as we started talking about a cruise, every site and app and service on my phone started showing me cruises, products and services related. Its metrics and it's the future.

I plan to use the navigator, which I understand is available to view on your stateroom tv, to write down the things we're interested in for each day, then just carry around our little note. I might bring the cell phone to dinner to see all the menu choices. But otherwise, the cell phone stays in the room safe!

Are paper navigators available upon request?

I think someone is going to start a tooth collection. But I got paper menus because of my allergies, so it’s not impossible.
