Hi all,
I know that you can cancel your trip paid with gift cards and the money will be transferred back to the original gift cards, the question I have is does anyone have experience of knowledge about if you can cancel your trip and be reimbursed to a credit card instead of the gift cards? I know it’s not how they do it but I guess I’m hoping there are occasional exceptions. I have contacted them but thought I would ask here too.

I would think that they have some sort of backup plan for people who either threw away or lost their original gift cards, but I don’t know if that would be new gift cards, a check, or a refund to a cc. Most businesses are fairly strict about refunding to the original form of payment in my experience, so it will be interesting to hear what they can do for you.

No change from refund to a Gift card or cards depending on amount of refund balance.

They can issue you a new Gift card or cards but that's the only backup plan. Gift cards are not fungible. They are a stored value media. That's what makes them somewhat risky and inflexible.

Ya, that is what I figured the case would be. Was just hoping for a miracle I suppose lol.

they are not permitted to refund gift card purchases to a credit card. It is along the lines of money laundering and no business is allowed to do it. Eventually they will transfer you to someone who will reimburse you to a new gift card. At the disney co-op my9 daughter made a purchase with her gift card and the employee threw it away. It ended up not fitting and she went to return it. They gave her a merchandise card for her return which was a pain to use. It had a lot of rules on using it and for example she could not get her AP discount if she used it and lots of restrictions on where she could use it. I ended up buying it from her and using it myself. I wish I had been paying attention when she made the original purchase because i would not have allowed the employee to toss her gift card, I always keep my gift cards for years after using just in case.

I see no reason to keep the gc’s after the trip for more than 30 days. You aren’t getting hotel or ticket or food refunds and after 30 days no merch can be refunded.

I keep several cards on hand because the website will allow you to store up to 5 cards with $500 limit on each. I buy a lot of e-gift cards online during flash sales, special promos, etc and then can load the e cards onto physical cards I can give to each family member to use on the trips. I move money around to each as needed and can constantly reload cards when a good GC promo comes online.

I do that too! I am constantly moving money around to gift cards to combine.

Which website? I’ve been removing all my GC from the Disney GC site for security purposes, because I’ve read that people have had their cards hacked there.
I won't store them on the site any longer. Disney makes it clear it is not a digital wallet. So I add the cards I need to add, move the money around, and delete them right away.
