I just contacted access america to arrange for travel insurance for our cruise and they asked for a break down of the cost for each traveler. I called costco (which is who we booked through) and they told me they only have the whole package price, not a breakdown of adult and child cost. Has anybody else encountered this problem? Should I just divide by 3 and not worry about the exact price for each adult and the price for the child? Thanks everyone for your help...!!!

I just got off the phone with AccessAmerica with the exact(well almost)same question. Our land/sea is costing my husband and I approx $1350, our 17 year old $628, and our 12 year old $428. On the internet with AA, they ask for trip cost per person but only give you 1 place to enter. Obviously we are dealing with 3 different prices, but insurance for the children is free. Are you confused yet? Anyway, they told me to take the total price and divide by 4 and to put in that for the trip cost. So in the end, Lord forbid, if we have to use the insurance we will still be reimbursed our full trip cost. Hope that this helps!!!

wdwmom2...

Thanks for the explanation...I appreciate your help! This insurance issue is becoming quite confusing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wondered if it was ok to just divide the total...As usual...lots of help on these Dis Boards!!! Thanks.

jerseygirlinvt,

I contacted Access America a couple of months ago and they told me to take the total price of the trip and divide by 5( we have a family of 5) to get the price per person. This was for the
family plan where the kids are "free". Hopefully I received correct info!!!

KaitlinsMom,

Access America had the best prices for our family. Go to accessamerica.com\aaa for the "family plan" where kids are "free".

A few thoughts on my experience:

1. It is not true that a TA will take care of all your insurance. We booked through AAA and I was told to take care of it myself.

2. My TA (again AAA) told me that since DCL will allow a full refund 60 days before that I shouldn't be in a rush to get insurance. Well, what I found out was that if you don't get insurance within 14 days (I think that was the cutoff) from the initial payment that pre-existing conditions would not be covered. Since my DH has heart issues and my DF is quite sick, that was quite a shock. To say the least, I'm keeping my fingers crossed on their conditions. Yes we did purchase the insurance just in case of weather or other issues, but apparently we won't be covered if an old illness crops up.

3. My discussions with Acess America was that it was okay to divide equally amongst all the travelers if it will be all or nothing. If one person cancels out, no one else will go and therefore you will need to get full refund. That's more in line with our case since it is just the 2 kids and DH and myself. But if you have a grandparent or adult children who you are taking and if they can't go, some portion of your group will still go, then you need to be careful about how you get the covereage because AA will only reimburse you for that person's portion of the trip.

My final advice, read and research - don't take one person's word for it. Who would have thought that a TA would lead me astray.

Gee, I wish I had had the "divide by" advice, might have been a tiny bit cheaper but what I was told was that I needed the actual separate amounts. I called my TA who called Disney and got those amounts. I wrote them down before I called Access. The insurance was calculated based on ranges of cost (I think $1000-$1500, like that.) so it didn't need to be within the penny. When I received my documents a year and half later, each ticket showed a specific amount which matched what I had been told. Who knows what really matters to the insurance company - since it only would matter if you need to file a claim.
