A few thoughts on my experience:
1. It is not true that a TA will take care of all your insurance. We booked through
AAA and I was told to take care of it myself.
2. My TA (again AAA) told me that since
DCL will allow a full refund 60 days before that I shouldn't be in a rush to get insurance. Well, what I found out was that if you don't get insurance within 14 days (I think that was the cutoff) from the initial payment that pre-existing conditions would not be covered. Since my DH has heart issues and my DF is quite sick, that was quite a shock. To say the least, I'm keeping my fingers crossed on their conditions. Yes we did purchase the insurance just in case of weather or other issues, but apparently we won't be covered if an old illness crops up.
3. My discussions with Acess America was that it was okay to divide equally amongst all the travelers if it will be all or nothing. If one person cancels out, no one else will go and therefore you will need to get full refund. That's more in line with our case since it is just the 2 kids and DH and myself. But if you have a grandparent or adult children who you are taking and if they can't go, some portion of your group will still go, then you need to be careful about how you get the covereage because AA will only reimburse you for that person's portion of the trip.
My final advice, read and research - don't take one person's word for it. Who would have thought that a TA would lead me astray.
