Question about borrowing and purch add on

Hi all, quick question that I am unsure about. I need to book our 5/18/12 trip, we are AKV and we are going to stay there, so I'm in my 11mos window to do so. But we are thinking (most likely) doing an add-on in the next few months, AKV also. We are March UY, 160 points

My question is if I book our trip tomorrow, I have 35points banked from 2011. I will get our 160 points in March. And will have to borrow 140points from 2013 to have enough points.

Are the points considered "borrowed" at the time of the the booking? We are looking at a 100pt add-on contract with 100 remaining for 2011 and then 100 for 2012. If we purchase this after I made our ressie, can I then specify to use those 100 point instead of borrowing from my current contract? Or is it once I make the ressie, there is no "going back"?

I hope that made sense......I'm just thinking that since I need to make my ressie now, that I shouldn't rush into buying the add on since I won't be able to use 2011 points, and I won't be able to use them if I bank them.

If I understand you correctly, you will have borrowed your 2013 points for the 5/18 trip and won't be able to put them back in 2013. Once borrowed, they will have to be used before the end of your 2012 UY (March 2013). If you are DEFINITELY going to do an add-on and want to use those points, I'd either hurry....or just use the points you have as planned and wait to do the add-on. If you do the add-on, you can't go back and change which points are being used. You would either do the add-on ASAP and then book, or use your current points and wait--which way you go would depend on your future travel plans.

Once you borrow the points from your 2013, that is a done deal. Those have to be used by 2/28/13. But, if you buy your add on in the next 2-3 months, you could bank the available 2011 points from the add-on to 2012. MS can then apply those points to your reservation and return that amount of points back to your 2012 UY. With a March UY, you have time to get through ROFR and beat the banking deadline at this point.

We just bought an AKV Dec UY contract with 40 banked 2009 points (into 2010) and MS was able to apply those to our October trip and return points to our 2010 UY, which I plan to bank for a trip next summer.
