Question about booking dining for others that I won’t be at

My dining day is coming up and trying to figure things out. My parents might join us on the trip, they’re currently undecided. But they’d like for me to book them a date night dinner one of our nights just in case. Can I book a dinner for 2 and put their names with me not on the reservation at all? And if yes, will that make it so I can’t cancel it they would have to even though I booked it? Or I’d still have that ability?

you can put your name on the reservation. They don’t check IDs at the restaurant. Your parents would just give whatever name the ressie is under when they check in & respond to it when called “Smith? Party of 2?”
