Question about blackout dates on PowerPass

Woohoo! My uncle just called and offered me their time share from June 16-23!
We're already planning a trip in November and had planned to get park-to-park tickets then, which will be about $650. If we add this unexpected summer trip we can get PowerPass Annual Passes instead for about $300 more that we've budgeted for the Nov. trip.

So here's the problem: the park to park admission for the week of June 16-23 is blacked out for PowerPass. My question is, can we do one park on one day, and the other park on another day, and still see all of the Harry Potter attractions, or do we have to have a park-to-park to ride some of the new stuff? Had not started planning for the November trip yet, so I'm a little in the dark about the details.

Trying to do this trip as affordably as possible. Thanks for any suggestions.

you can use the power pass for IOA in June.
it's blacked out for the studios for your time period.

you could buy the PP and use it for IOA and again in november.
you would need to buy a one day park ticket to do the studios.

if HE is opened, you would not be able to do that ride with a one park only ticket.
if you want to do HE, buy a 2 day PtP ticket and forget about the power pass for June.

if your november trip will be 4 or more days, the power pass would be beneficial.

you would have to decide if you want to go ahead and buy the power pass to use for one day at IOA and again in november, which would be allowed for both parks.

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I need to figure out if it's worth it to upgrade to the Preferred Pass or just get individual tickets each time we go.

You could always just purchase a multi-day ticket and then just upgrade it on the last day of your vacation to the power pass. If you decide you want park to park, just upgrade to that first.

The way it stands, you won't be able to see any of Universal Studios, just Islands of Adventure from June 14-August 14. You can only do Islands of Adventure with the power pass during your week.

Thing is, Diagon Alley might not even be open that week.

Great idea, thanks!! Crossing fingers that DA will be open when we go, but if not we'll catch it in November.

Wouldn't the systems be too smart for this? I believe Disney wouldn't allow you to upgrade, applying full purchase price of a non restrictive ticket to a FL AP that has restrictions on dates. It's an obvious way to get around the blackout dates on an AP on your first visit.

Anyone in the know tried this type of thing and know it works? Visit during a black out time and pay approx $177 for 2 day P2P access. Then upgrade to a FL resident Power Pass that sells for $190 (as you are leaving b/c you are blocked from US and Diagon Ally b/c it is a blackout day). The difference in cost is $13........ so pay $13 to upgrade and have an annual Powerpass with blockdates for next 363 days.

Seems like they would close this loophole and ONLY allow the ticket to be upgraded to an AP that did NOT have blackout dates b/c you first visited on a blackout date.

Any ticket experts and insiders want to weigh in? Thank you for your time.

I thought the same. I don't see why UOR would allow this type of upgrade. If they did anything, it would probably be allowing the prorated value of the last day of the ticket be applied to the Power Pass. But if you upgraded to the Preferred Pass, then I could see UOR doing the full cost upgrade. But you could have bought the Preferred Pass originally and avoided the paperwork.

I would just pay the extra for the AP without blackouts.

If you are staying offsite then you have a added benefit of free parking (save $18 a day every day you park after the first). Also food and merchandise discounts.

Plus hotel discounts if you want to stay onsite for your return trip.

Thanks for all of the responses. I called today and asked about upgrading tickets to an annual pass. I was very specific about the dates, telling him that we were taking a trip there in 2 weeks. I asked him if we could buy the 4 day tickets, then upgrade to an annual pass on the last day and he said we could. I asked lots of questions about the Power Pass, so he knew that was one that we're considering.

We upgraded multi-day tickets from Costco to the Power pass last year with no problem - only had to pay about $25 to upgrade. Granted, we weren't there in a black-out time period, but we upgraded with no problems.
