I have a question about baby names. Do you feel that the name Carson is becoming a girls name, such as Taylor, Morgan, Austin, etc? OR do you think its still a boys name? I always liked it for a boy, and DH and I have a hard time finding boys names we like, but see it being used as a girls name once in awhile lately. What do you think?

I know quite a few people who have named their babies Carson (or Karson) in the last couple years. Only one has been a boy. It is actually on my list for girls names. However, if you like it, don't be afraid to use it. Hell, I have an uncle Meredith, and a friend who is male named Ashley.

There is a female dance instructor in my dd's dance school named Carson, and she's in her early 20's.

I have not heard Carson used as a girl name. Whenever I hear that name, I definitely think of it as a boys name (and a good name)!

Actually, the 1st Carson I knew, was a girl. However, I think it is clearly a name for a boy.

We named our 2yo dd Kendall, and about freaked out once we heard it used for a boy! I don't think I would have ever chosen it, if I knew it may be a "dual" name!

There's a story behind her name too...we were awake in the wee hours after dd was born, and decided we needed to determine her name. We started talking to her and gave her 3 choices. Well, she clearly shook her head on one!, and another one just didn't seem to fit her. So, she is our little Miss Kendall! The light of our lives... ;)

btw...Carson (boy) is our dd's best friend! Good luck with your decision!

Its definitely still a boy's name in England .... never heard it used for a girl.

I think of Carson as a boy, never heard it as a girl, but I also think of Austin as a boy. Maybe Im just behind the times. ;)

one of my dearest friends has a 7yo DD named Karson. she heard it from the 80's movie "Shag". when i hear the name, i think of a girl, but only because the only Karson i know is a girl!

but i think it works for a boy or a girl...

There is the cutest little girl in my DS's class named Karson. I will always think it's a girl's name. My DS had a crush on her in Kindergarten and he told her he thought she was cute. Karson was very embarrased and told my son to "be quiet or I'll pull your pants down!" I still get a good laugh at that one! My poor son!

I think it is a great name. My neighbor up the street has the same problem with Hunter, her son. So far it is running more girls than boys with that name.
You do run the risk of a Karson (girl) in class with your son Carson. But I still think of it as a boys name.

We know 3 Carsons. There are 2 female Carsons in DS' kindergarten class and one male Carson in his Sunday school class.

I'm all for names that could go either way (I love the name Hunter for a girl). But Carson sounds like a boy's name to me.

I think there should be a third choice - "it could go either way". I think both a girl and a boy would sound cute with the name of Carson. :D

I've never met a girl Carson, Hunter, or Austin. I substitute teach kindergarten a lot. Are most of the girl with those names still under school age?

The Carsons that we know are in kindegarten this year. Maybe using Carson as a girl's name is a regional thing...

We know several families (including BIL and wife) that chose a name before birth that they planned to use whether the baby was a boy or girl. Carson would fit in that category. Good luck!

I have never heard of this used as a girls name.

I'm sorry, but I've never been a fan of boys names used as girls either. My neighbors names are Taylor (a boy) and Bari (a girl). It sounds like they got mixed up!

I actually know a Carson (girl) who is 41yrs. I believe her parents really wanted a boy, and named her that anyway!

At one time I thought I liked boys names for a girl, but found I named my kids very traditional gender specific names. I think they'll thank me for it one day

There are so many other reasons why they'll end up on Oprah, but their names won't be one of them - LOL  :D :D :D

Avery(DD) is traditionally a boys name, but to me it sounds girly. (No offense to anyone who knows an boy named Avery! ;) ) We got her name from Jerry Maguire. :p

When I hear Carson I think of Carson Daly from Mtv! LOL! So definitely boy! :)

I've never heard of a girl Carson. Carson was actually on our list for boy names. We decided to go w/ Colin instead.

Morgan was on our list for girl names.
